StreetLight Data is seeking a creative, versatile, and motivated

Data Scientist

to be part of our growing team. This team member will be responsible for contributing transportation industry expertise to inform characterization and quality control for StreetLight Data’s suite of products. They will help ensure StreetLight’s metrics appropriately meet real-world expectations and customer scenarios, and contribute to the development of the analytics and data pipeline as needed. This position reports to the Data Science Manager, Data and Metrics Quality team.

Key Responsibilities

Characterize, validate and monitor the quality of StreetLight’s metrics, algorithms, and data artifacts.

Assist with the design and implementation of algorithms to infer key transportation patterns from various data sources.

Aggregate and process real-world data for modeling and validation efforts.

Effectively communicate final results to stakeholders, providing thorough documentation and supporting interactive visualizations of data for informed decision-making.

Own creation of internal technical documentation and customer-facing White Papers.

Collaborate with other Data Scientists, Data Engineers and Product Managers to ensure data sources meet quality standards.

Here’s what you’ll need

BS/MS in Urban Planning, Transportation or an Engineering discipline from a top university, or a PhD focused on quantitative research.

Experience working with geo-spatial data.

Prior professional experience in transportation planning or engineering.

4+ years of experience in data science and/or statistics, using tools such as Python or R.

4+ years of experience in SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL or BigQuery preferred), and good understanding of database concepts.

Strong understanding of techniques in data science (machine learning algorithms, regression analysis, etc.)

Strong analytical skills, experience using data to solve problems, inform decision making, and tell stories.

An eagerness to problem-solve and desire to take initiative in defining requirements for ambiguous projects.

Ability to accurately estimate the time requirements for complex tasks, meet those targets, and make compromises to enable scalability and productization of algorithms.

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and methodical in reporting and documenting work.

Very strong communication skills—written, visual (presentations) and verbal.

Technical writing skills. Experience synthesizing complex technical concepts for less technical audiences.

Quick learner, and a strong team player.

Experience working with StreetLight Data metrics is a plus.

Posted Salary Range Minimum 120,000.00 Posted Salary Range Upper 140,000.00 The base salary range for this position is $120,000.00 to $140,000.00. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across British Columbia, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
