This position is part of Lockheed Martin’s Aeronautics - Advanced Development Programs team also known as “Skunk Works”, specializing in the development and licensing of vehicle control station software for unmanned systems.
This role focuses on mission critical software (SW) for control and analytics of uncrewed vehicles and systems. Skunk Works Canada SW is deployed globally in Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Medium (Shadow RQ-7), Large (Grey Eagle MQ-1C), and high altitude pseudo satellite (HAPS) systems, as well as surface vehicles and target systems.
As part of the Skunk Works team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on cutting edge next generation ground control system platforms, computer vision and AI applications in the air and on the ground.
We’re looking for a Systems Engineer to play a critical role in engineering mission critical SW for uncrewed vehicles. System engineers support development by creating requirements, system design, integrating components and testing against the original requirements. You will work closely with developers to form a cohesive cross‑functional team capable of bringing products from mission scenarios to a tested, polished final product.
Job Summary / Key Responsibilities
Performs technical planning, system integration, Verification and Validation (V&V), cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems
Perform analysis at all levels of total system product including: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal
Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and SW specifications
Support Systems Engineering Modernization team through these standardization tasks
Performs all duties with minimal supervision, consistently demonstrating a high level of initiative
Required skills, qualifications and experience
8+ years of systems engineering experience, with experience in requirements engineering, system design, integration and verification and validation
Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering or Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) discipline
Ability to work within a dynamic and fast paced team
Experience engaging with end users to define systems requirements
Experience in project leadership supporting goal setting, communications, delegating tasks, etc.
Experience in system design and integration
Experienced tester, including maintaining clear traceability from requirements
Eligible for Canadian Controlled Goods (CG) clearance
Desired skills, qualifications and experience
Experience performing Systems Engineering activities associated with Model Based applications
Ability to present and communicate systems analyses and proposal in a professional manner for executive and customer review
Prior experience as a team lead or mentor, supporting training and development
Knowledge and experience with DO-278B certification would be beneficial
Experience within the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) industry would be very relevant to this position
Familiarity with Standardization Agreement (STANAG) 4586, STANAG 4817, Joint Authorities for Rulemaking on Unmanned Systems (JARUS) and other standards relevant to UAS
