Job Description

As Corporate Controller, an active member of the executive team, your leadership and management of the accounting and finance organization and processes will support Western Tractor while providing a strategic lens to the rest of the organization. Reporting to the President of Western Tractor and an Officer of the company, this team member plays a critical role in the ongoing success and strategic positioning of Western Tractor. The successful candidate will have the benefit of a transition period with the current incumbent who is retiring after a fruitful 10+ years as Controller.

Corporate Controller Responsibilities

Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operation of the accounting department including internal controls.

Direct the preparation of all financial reports including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports to Agriwestern Dealership Group (AWDG) and shareholders, tax returns, and reports for government regulatory agencies.

Works closely with Western Tractor President to ensure alignment of Financial Strategy and Accountabilities with overall organization strategy and direction.

Provide ad-hoc reporting as required including but not limited to forecasting and performance reporting.

Coordinate the financial planning and budget process with input of the other members of the executive team. Responsible for presenting annual Budget to AWDG.

Manage cash flows and analyze credit line requirements. Will take the lead on negotiations with Deere and the financial institution with regards to credit line.

Evaluate financial reporting systems and ERP and make recommendations for improvements to the executive team and/or AWDG.

Provides financial counseling and assistance to all departments as required. Further, educate the Leadership Team in financial literacy regarding their financial reports.

Utilizes business acumen to develop an informed perspective of performance after synthesizing financial metrics and other variables, including internal initiatives and industry dynamics.

Manage the Insurance process. This includes being the lead for claims, negotiating coverages, and going to the market (when appropriate).

Collaborates with HR to develop maintain and manage the compensation and benefit plan as well as the worker’s compensation process and payroll for the organization.

Collaborates with the President on Benefit plans and providers when changing coverages or going to the market.

Manage the annual audit process.

Manage the banking relationship and ensure we are on-side with all financial covenants as well as reviewing the Credit facility agreement.

Working Relationships

Key member of the Western Tractor Executive team and fellow controllers in AWDG.

Interaction with the organization at all levels and significant connection with the Executive Team.

Directs reports (5) which include Senior Accountant, Accounts Payable Clerk, Payroll Administrator, and (2) Sales Administration.

Key external relationships include management at the Company’s parent (AWDG) and with external parties including the Company’s Auditors, Financial Institution, and Insurance Broker.

Requirements

Experience in overseeing accounting and financial management for a medium-sized company.

Strong practice in compiling, analyzing, and interpreting financial information and providing sound recommendations.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Relevant post-secondary education: Accounting degree with a designation (CA, CPA, CMA).
