Build the future of professional photography with AI at Pixieset. We're hiring an Applied AI Research Engineer to explore, prototype, and ship advanced computer vision and computational photography features that help over 1.5 million creatives worldwide do their best work.

This role blends applied research and hands-on engineering, where you'll have the opportunity to explore novel techniques and turn them into real-world features. You'll collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams, move quickly from concept to prototype, and help shape the next generation of Pixieset's products.

Your Impact

Conduct applied research in computer vision and computational photography for real-world professional workflows

Prototype and validate ML techniques for photo editing, enhancement, and culling

Build and maintain pipelines to prepare, augment, and evaluate large-scale image/video datasets

Define and improve evaluation frameworks and benchmarks for model performance and product quality

Deploy deep learning models optimized for desktop and laptop performance

Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering and Product teams to ship mission-critical, user-facing features

Explore techniques applicable to photos, such as generative models, discriminative models, and feature extractors

Stay current on academic and industry breakthroughs and translate them into production-ready innovation

Role & Requirements

2+ years of experience spanning both applied research and hands-on ML engineering, including model development, experimentation, and deployment

Deep knowledge of computer vision, deep learning, and image processing, with the ability to apply theory to real-world problems through both research and production engineering

Proficiency in PyTorch or TensorFlow for training, fine-tuning, and experimentation

Proven ability to execute research independently (projects, publications, open-source work)

Experience working with large image/video datasets, including preparation, augmentation, and evaluation

Strong programming skills and ability to write clean, maintainable production-quality code

Comfortable navigating ambiguous problems and iterating quickly from prototype to product

Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering and product teams

The typical salary range for this position is CAD $109,250 - $178,500 annually. Salary offered will be based on skills, experience and market data.
