Position Summary
Responsible for all aspects of tax compliance and planning for both sales and income taxes in Canada and the U.S. Responsible for cash forecasting and optimizing cash and debt levels; assist in the development of optimal capital structure; manage debt levels and banking relationships; manage foreign exchange exposures and risks.
Key Responsibilities
Tax
Supervise the preparation of sales tax returns (about 50 per month)
Liaise with auditors
Prepare federal and provincial/state income tax returns; prepare tax working papers for audited financial statements
Identify and implement tax planning opportunities
Evaluate and adjust transfer pricing models and practices
Treasury
Update and improve short and longer term cash forecasting models
Supervise the cash applications team
Forecast, monitor and manage cash flow and debt requirements
Develop optimal capital structure
Identify and manage FX exposures; develop appropriate hedging strategies if necessary
Identify and manage interest swap opportunities; manage interest level tranches within the existing debt structure
Supervisory
Supervises one manager and tax staff of one; cash applications staff of 4. Staff development and career planning focus is important for this area.
Essential Qualifications
Minimum education: University Degree; CA highly preferred. CMA with extensive experience; CICA in-depth tax course, or equivalent.
5-10 years post designation experience
Knowledge of Canadian and US income taxes
Transfer Pricing
Corporate experience (experience with Canada and US branches or HO)
Advanced Excel modeling skills
Strong experience with hedging
Non-technical skills/abilities: strong analytical and financial modeling skills; ability to manage shifting priorities and multiple deadlines; strong organizational and communication abilities.
