Job Description AECOM is actively seeking a Contract Senior Solid Waste Management Engineer to join our growing Western Canada waste management team for part‑time work. The right candidate can work locally from our Edmonton, AB office and AECOM can provide hybrid work options to give the flexibility you need to do your best work. This is an on‑call or part‑time contract position.

We are looking for a candidate that has a can‑do attitude, is enthusiastic, a team‑oriented professional, with a strong technical background. The appropriately qualified candidate will have a strong understanding and experience in solid waste management.

The role will focus on supporting ongoing solid waste management projects across Western Canada but will also interface with other projects within AECOM’s Environment business.

Responsibilities

Perform field investigations, collect and analyze field data and laboratory testing results, and produce detailed technical reports.

Develop technical solutions to complete designs and evaluations of solid waste landfill cells, leachate collection and conveyance systems, landfill master plans, capping and closure projects, stormwater management facilities, and compost facilities.

Prepare documentation for design projects: technical letters, memorandums, reports, drawings, and detailed design packages.

Prepare project specifications, contract documents, construction packages, and construction cost estimates.

Prepare regulatory submittal documents for landfill and compost facility development.

Perform construction supervision, administration, and monitoring, including contract close‑out and reporting.

Collaborate with junior and intermediate staff on client, co‑worker, sub‑contractor, and sub‑consultant communication and management.

Provide oversight on multi‑disciplinary projects, including proposal development, change management, safety, logistics, regulatory and stakeholder management, cost and schedule tracking, and coordination of project deliverables and technical aspects.

Assist with proposal development.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Civil, Geotechnical, Environmental, etc.).

8+ years of experience in solid waste management.

Proficient technical writing experience for detailed design reports, landfill master plans, operations plans, and regulatory document submissions.

Registered Professional Engineer with APEGA and/or other provincial or territorial jurisdictions.

Valid driver’s license.

Travel within Canada likely required.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; excellent knowledge of Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications

Multiple provincial or territorial jurisdiction registrations.

25+ years of technical experience in one or more of the following fields: staff management, remedial option assessment, implementation, system operation and maintenance, geotechnical and/or geological engineering, geochemistry, mining, regulatory frameworks, construction oversight, QA/QC, contract administration, drafting coordination, AutoCAD proficiency.

Project management experience: use of systems and reporting for scope, scheduling, and cost control; proposal writing; job scoping; project plans; teamwork for timelines and quality management; PMP certification or other training.
