Legal Technology Lawyer
We are seeking a talented and experienced Legal Technology Lawyer to join our dynamic national Knowledge and Practice Innovation team, focused on technology and AI development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both legal practice and technology, with a passion for leveraging technological solutions such as artificial intelligence, to improve legal processes and outcomes.
This non-practicing role requires technological proficiency combined with knowledge of legal workflows to provide hands‑on support in the implementation and adoption of improved legal processes and technologies, including artificial intelligence. This is a progressive opportunity for a creative and forward‑thinker interested in combining legal experience with technology and innovation.
Reporting to the Director, AI & Legal Technology, this role offers a hybrid working arrangement.
Responsibilities/Duties
Collaborate with legal teams to identify opportunities for implementing a range of technology solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Assist with leveraging AI systems for end‑users, ensuring these systems are tailored to meet the specific needs (e.g. choosing the right AI tool for various use cases, collaboratively prompt engineering, creating workflow specific AI apps).
Work closely with Knowledge and Practice Innovation lawyers to leverage their relationships and understanding of different practice areas and legal workflows.
Participate in system analysis, requirements gathering, system design and implementation planning for existing or new systems.
Validate the use of legal technology tools to ensure they are meeting the intended objectives and making necessary adjustments or recommendations for improvement as needed.
Manage vendor relationships, including negotiating contracts, overseeing service‑level agreements, and ensuring vendors deliver high‑quality products and services that meet the firm's needs and standards.
Lead change management efforts to ensure successful adoption of legal technology solutions, including developing training programs, communicating benefits to stakeholders, and addressing any resistance or barriers to adoption.
Provide training and ongoing support and guidance to legal and business professionals on the use of legal technology tools, including troubleshooting issues and answering questions.
Where appropriate, provide hands‑on support in the use of legal technologies on client files, as a member of the matter team.
Stay current on emerging legal technologies and trends and assess their potential impact on our Firm and clients.
Work collaboratively with key stakeholders on all aspects of the selection, implementation and use of legal technology.
Required Experience
Two (2) to three (3) years' experience in legal practice at a leading law firm.
Expert understanding and working knowledge of Document Management Systems (iManage), Microsoft Office 365 applications, Adobe and other legal production software (such as Litera products).
Highly skilled in application administration, testing, configuration, performance monitoring and in‑depth troubleshooting.
Familiarity with legal technology tools, general AI applications, and platforms with AI components.
Ability to facilitate small and large group meetings, training and working sessions.
Qualifications
LLB, BCL or J.D. required; B.Comm or MBA is an asset.
Fluency in both English and French.
Must be a member in good standing with the applicable provincial Law Society.
Minimum of two (2) years of legal practice experience in a large law firm, legal department or professional services firm.
Strong understanding of legal technology tools and platforms, with an interest in applying technical solutions to standardize legal processes.
Excellent analytical skills and the ability to use logic to solve complex problems.
Strong communication skills combined with excellent organizational skills, and rigorous attention to detail.
Ability to balance competing demands, demonstrated good business judgment, and experience working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Curiosity and a growth mindset, with a strong interest in evolving best practices in legal and knowledge industries and staying current on emerging legal technologies and trends.
Pay Range
$130,000 to $150,000. Pay range to be commensurate with experience.

Tâches Et Responsabilités
Collaborer avec les équipes juridiques afin de repérer les occasions de mettre en œuvre un éventail de solutions technologiques pour améliorer le rendement et l’efficacité.
Aider à tirer parti des systèmes d’IA pour les utilisateurs finaux, en veillant à ce que ces systèmes soient adaptés aux besoins particuliers (p. ex. choisir le bon outil d’IA pour divers cas d’utilisation, préparer des requêtes en collaboration, créer des applications d’IA pour des flux de travail précis).
Travailler étroitement avec les avocats de l’équipe Gestion du savoir et innovation de la pratique pour tirer parti de leurs relations et de leur compréhension des différents domaines de pratique et flux de travail juridiques.
Participer à l’analyse, au recensement des exigences, à la conception des systèmes actuels ou nouveaux, ainsi qu’à la planification de leur implantation.
Valider l’utilisation des outils technologiques juridiques pour s’assurer qu’ils répondent aux objectifs, puis apporter les ajustements nécessaires ou émettre des recommandations aux fins d’amélioration, au besoin.
Gérer les relations avec les fournisseurs, négocier des contrats, superviser les ententes sur les niveaux de service et s’assurer que les fournisseurs offrent des produits et des services de haute qualité qui répondent aux besoins et respectent les normes du cabinet.
Diriger les efforts de gestion du changement pour s’assurer que les solutions de technologies juridiques sont adoptées, ce qui inclut l’élaboration de programmes de formation, la communication des avantages aux parties prenantes et la résolution de toute barrière à l’adoption de ces stratégies.
Offrir de la formation, du soutien continu et des conseils aux professionnels du droit et des affaires sur l’utilisation des outils de technologies juridiques, ce qui comprend résoudre des problèmes et répondre à des questions.
