Chief Technologist Transfusion Services
Base pay range: CA$46.24/hr - CA$56.63/hr
The Chief Technologist/Medical Laboratory Specialist 3 (MLS3) is responsible for the daily administration, organization, supervision and technical function of the Division and participates with the Division Head and the Laboratory Manager in the development of policies, procedures, plans, objectives, budgets, etc. The MLS3 manages and supervises staff, performs technical operations in the Division and assists with the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Supervising technologists and support staff in accordance with laboratory policies and completing performance appraisals; and clearly communicating expectations
Organizing daily laboratory activities and assigning duties and bench rotations
Ensuring adequate supplies in inventory as well as adequacy and quality of reagent and control solutions
Ensuring the practice of laboratory safety policies and procedures
Encouraging the ongoing development of division staff through continuing education
Maintaining a work climate that encourages communication, through the use of team building, interpersonal conflict resolution and shared decision making
Participating in developing policies, procedures, plans and objectives, and developing the division budget and monitoring expenditures
Maintaining workload measurement records and performing related statistical analysis
Developing work shift and vacation schedules, approving time sheets, overtime and leave forms
Reviewing and reporting of proficiency testing programs
Ensuring preventative maintenance on instruments in liaison with Biomedical Engineering Services and/or commercial equipment suppliers
Instructing technical and support staff in the proper operation of instruments and methods
Participating in the selection of equipment and methods
Encouraging, supporting and participating in method development in consultation with the Division Head and the Laboratory Manager
Assisting in the selection of division staff
Responsible for implementation of the quality management system in the department and ensures practices and procedures meet and/or exceed the required standards
Other related and allied duties
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in science, arts or health related degree and/or ART is required
Graduate from an accredited program in Medical Laboratory Technology
Extensive experience in Blood Transfusion Services
Registered with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) as an active member
Licensed or eligible for licensing with the PEI College of Allied Health Professionals
Previous supervisory experience and/or completion of a formal leadership program considered an asset
Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including oral and written communication as well as good interpersonal relationships and organizational ability are essential
A good previous work and attendance record
Other Qualifications
Courses and/or certificates in Management from a recognized Health Care learning program would be an asset. The successful applicant may be required to undertake such studies if not previously completed
Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset
Salary Range: $46.24 - $56.63 per hour
Bi-Weekly Hours: 75.0 hours bi-weekly / Monday to Friday, Days.
