Intermediate / Senior Underwriter

About the Role Maple Mutual is looking for an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our growing team! As the Senior Underwriter you will be responsible for accepting, rejecting and amending new business, renewals, and endorsements for Maple Mutual within an allocated scope of authority. The Underwriter will work collectively with Insurance Agents, Loss Control Inspectors, and Broker Partners to minimize losses, manage risk exposures, and generate beneficial solutions for Maple Mutual.

Key Responsibilities

Review and analyze policy applications to assess coverage eligibility.

Prepare and present findings to Insurance Agents or Broker Partners before approving, modifying, or declining applications based on risk assessment results.

Collaborate to determine suitable coverages and evaluate policy options in alignment with underwriting guidelines and binding authorities.

Partner with Insurance Agents and Brokerage Partners to identify available coverages, set appropriate premiums, and define terms for new business, renewals, and endorsements.

Provide updates, education and guidance to Advisors and Brokers on the implications of coverage changes and guideline updates.

Process policies using Cognition+ while ensuring accuracy and completeness of documentation.

Participate in industry seminars, educational forums, webinars, and related professional events.

Qualifications

Post‑secondary education (Insurance, Business, or Communications preferred) or equivalent training and experience

Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation, or actively pursuing, an asset

Minimum 7 years’ P&C underwriting experience

Familiarity with Cognition+ an asset

Strong analytical skills and decision‑making ability, effective problem‑solving with sound reasoning

Clear, professional communication and exceptional attention to detail
