Job Description
Our client is seeking a Naval Architect to join their engineering team and play a key role in supporting major shipbuilding projects from concept through construction. They are open to Junior, Intermediate or Senior Naval Architects to join their growing team. In this position, you will provide technical oversight, review engineering outputs, and collaborate with internal teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure vessel designs meet customer expectations and classification requirements. This role offers a unique blend of office-based engineering analysis and hands-on problem-solving within an active shipyard environment, allowing you to apply both theoretical knowledge and practical engineering principles to deliver high-quality outcomes on complex new-build programs. Responsibilities
Provide technical oversight across all stages of ship design and construction, ensuring structural designs and engineering deliverables meet project, customer, and classification requirements.
Manage both planned and emergent engineering work within the assigned scope, supporting project schedules and responding to technical challenges during construction.
Review technical reports, calculations, models, and specifications prepared by subcontractors and project partners to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with standards.
Develop routine engineering deliverables and contribute technical expertise to support both internal teams and external stakeholders.
Identify discipline-specific technical risks and apply risk-based decision making to develop effective mitigation strategies.
Contribute to continuous improvement by developing and maintaining engineering processes, procedures, and best practices within the discipline.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) or equivalent in a relevant discipline; Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility is preferred.
Degree in Naval Architecture is considered an asset.
4–10 years of experience in ship design, ship construction, or a related complex industrial or manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of modern ship design and construction practices and familiarity with applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
Working understanding of shipyard disciplines related to structural design and construction, including hull structures, arrangements, producibility, and manufacturing considerations.
Exposure to marine engineering or shipbuilding environments through professional experience, co-op placements, or academic coursework.
Pay: $80,000 - $130,000 annually depending on seniority
This role requires someone on-site 5 days per week in Halifax, Nova Scotia
