TITLE Accounting Manager, Construction

SALARY RANGE $100,000 - $125,000

TEAM SIZE 5-8 people

THE ROLE A management role overseeing the full accounting function for a regional construction office, reporting to both regional and corporate senior leadership, with responsibility for team leadership, financial reporting, purchasing oversight, and driving process and personnel improvements.

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting (25%) Purchasing Oversight & Stakeholder Support (25%)

THE TASKS Manage and oversee daily operations of the accounting department including AP, collections, payroll, and progress billing Mentor and develop team members, establishing individual development plans and promoting professional growth Distribute monthly close schedules and deadlines to staff, holding them accountable for timely submissions Monitor staff work for accuracy, ensuring transactions are recorded in the correct period and allocated to the proper jobs Cross-train on all accounting functions to serve as backup when team members are absent or on leave Provide daily support and guidance to resolve issues the team encounters, reducing reliance on head office Address performance gaps and enforce accountability through structured conversations, including disciplinary action where necessary Lead change management initiatives to establish and reinforce proper procedures across the department and with operational staff

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting Lead the monthly close process within the established 12-15 business day timeline without requesting extensions Review and calculate cost to complete reports, performing variance analysis and preparing financial statement notes Prepare and review monthly financial reporting packages for head office consolidation Prepare 12-month revenue forecasts by project for senior management Coordinate the annual year-end audit, respond to auditor inquiries including variance analysis, and ensure staff provide requested information on time

Purchasing Oversight & Stakeholder Support Approve invoices on a daily basis, verifying receipt of goods, dollar amounts, and correct job cost allocation Monitor purchasing activity to ensure materials received are recorded in the correct period to maintain cost to complete accuracy Work closely with the purchasing team to enforce proper procedures and improve tracking discipline Provide timely and readable financial information and reports to VPs, project managers, and senior leadership Escalate unresolved collections, billing, and compliance issues by engaging directly with operational staff in person when necessary

THE EXPECTATIONS TIMELINE By Month 1

Complete onboarding on all company systems and processes, including the ERP and internal reporting workflows Build relationships with the accounting team, purchasing staff, and operational managers Understand the monthly close schedule, reporting requirements, and cost to complete process end to end Review existing workflows and begin identifying gaps in procedures and compliance

By Month 3

Independently manage the monthly close within established deadlines without requesting extensions Document identified process gaps and present a remediation plan aligned with head office standards Demonstrate positive team engagement and establish credibility with operational staff and project managers Begin enforcing purchasing procedures and deadline accountability across departments

By Month 6

Fully own all financial operations including reporting, forecasting, and audit coordination Show measurable improvement in cost to complete accuracy and submission timeliness Cross-trained on all team functions and capable of stepping into any role as backup Actively mentoring team members with development plans in place

By Month 12

Purchasing compliance and procedure adherence significantly improved across the branch Team is meeting all close deadlines consistently without requiring head office intervention 12-month revenue forecasts by project are reliable and delivered on schedule Staff development progressing with increased capability and independence across the department

THE SKILL SET Minimum 5 years of construction industry accounting experience with demonstrated job costing expertise Proven experience managing and developing an accounting team
