Job Description What is the Opportunity? As a Senior ServiceNow Discovery & Service Mapping Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and optimizing ServiceNow’s Discovery and Service Mapping solutions. This role is critical to enhancing our IT service delivery by automating asset tracking, mapping service dependencies, and ensuring accurate CMDB (Configuration Management Database) integrity. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to transform raw infrastructure data into actionable insights, enabling proactive incident management and strategic decision-making.

What Will You Do?

Design, configure, and deploy ServiceNow Discovery (MID Server) and Service Mapping solutions to automate the identification of IT assets, applications, and service dependencies.

Troubleshoot discovery/mapping issues, resolve data inconsistencies, and ensure compliance with RBC’s IT governance standards.

Collaborate with stakeholders and support teams to align solutions with business objectives.

Document technical processes, create training materials, and mentor junior team members.

Must-Have Qualifications

3+ years

of hands‑on experience with

ServiceNow Discovery

and

Service Mapping

modules.

Experience identifying, investigating, and resolving Discovery issues with working knowledge of UNIX server, Windows server, and network gear.

In‑depth knowledge of networking including TCP/IP ports and firewalls, network protocols, IP networks, subnetting, and network devices, and virtualization environment configurations, i.e. – Hyper‑V, VMware.

In‑depth knowledge of ServiceNow reconciliation process and identifying the frameworks that are related to ServiceNow mapping.

In‑depth knowledge of ServiceNow discovery patterns and scripts, especially PowerShell and JavaScript.

Experience with ITIL v4 frameworks, particularly in Configuration Management and Service Asset & Configuration Management (SACM).

Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) – Discovery

or equivalent certification.

Nice‑to‑Have Qualifications

Familiarity with ServiceNow Event Management, Orchestration, or ITOM modules.

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker).

Knowledge of network protocols (SNMP, SSH, WMI) and infrastructure monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, Nagios).

Agile/Scrum methodology experience in IT service delivery projects.

ITIL 4 Foundation Certified.
