Role Overview
The Manager, Systems Security leads the design, implementation, and operation of security controls that protects MDA Space systems, infrastructure, and data. This role manages a team of security engineers within the Geointelligence Platform Products portfolio. The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth with people leadership, operational discipline, and the ability to translate security requirements into practical, scalable engineering solutions. This position can be based out of our Richmond, Brampton, Montreal or Ottawa location.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of security engineers across infrastructure, cloud, and application security domains
Set technical direction, priorities, and standards for security engineering initiatives
Manage staffing, performance reviews, and career development
Champion security‑by‑design principles across Platform Products
Security Engineering & Architecture
Lead the design and implementation of security controls across Geointelligence
Define security architecture patterns and reference designs aligned with business objectives
Review system designs and architecture to identify security risks and recommend mitigations
Application & Platform Security
Collaborate with the Geointelligence Sr Manager DevSecOps and Platform Product teams to embed security into CI/CD pipelines
Collaborate with the Geointelligence Sr Manager DevSecOps to architect tooling and processes for:
SAST, DAST, SCA, container and IaC scanning
Secrets management and key management
Operations & Incident Support
Collaborate with MDA Space Cybersecurity to ensure alignment with operational security standards
Ensure timely vulnerability identification, prioritization, and remediation
Provide support during security incidents and post‑incident reviews
Define and track SLAs, KPIs, and security engineering metrics
Governance, Risk & Compliance Alignment
Translate regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIST, CMMC) into technical controls
Support Geointelligence Director Operations audits, risk assessments, and third‑party security reviews
Support the maintenance of security documentation, and standards
Collaboration & Communication
Act as a trusted technical advisor to MDA Space IT, MDA Space Cybersecurity, Geointelligence Platform Products, Geointelligence Chief Architect, Geointelligence Operations, and Geointelligence business leaders
Communicate security risks, trade‑offs, and recommendations to both technical and non‑technical audiences
Influence roadmaps and investment decisions
Innovation and Research
Stay current on emerging threats, technologies, and industry best practices
Collaborate with the Geointelligence Sr Manager DevSecOps to run proof‑of‑concepts and pilots for new security solutions.
Requirements (experience/skills)
Bachelors degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics, or equivalent experience
7+ years experience in information security or security engineering
3+ years in a people management and/or technical leadership role
Proven experience in:
IAM, network security, and endpoint security
Vulnerability management and security tooling ecosystems
Proven experience in modern application architectures (microservices, containers, Kubernetes)
Proven experience integrating security into CI/CD pipelines
Proven ability to balance security rigor with operational practicality
Comments/Special Considerations
Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the
SECRET status level II , and pass security assessment for the
Controlled Goods Program (CGP) .

The compensation range for this position is $130,000 - $180,000 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
