About The Role
We are looking for a
General Counsel
to lead our Legal Department and provide high-quality legal services for the
GroupHEALTH Family of Companies (GHFoC) . Reporting to the
Chief Financial Officer , you will be a key partner to the executive leadership team and business units on legal and compliance matters. This is a
national, executive-level role
with responsibility for multiple business units and affiliates across Canada. You will help shape strategic decisions by ensuring legal and regulatory considerations are fully understood. You will play a critical role in enabling GHFoC to make informed business decisions while mitigating legal and regulatory risks. This is an opportunity to influence corporate strategy and lead a high-impact function within a growing organization. This role is based in our
South Surrey, BC
office, and would require the successful candidate to work a hybrid schedule.
What to Expect In Your First 3 Months
Become familiar with current corporate structure, the various functions and divisions, and the shared services model of the GHFoC
Become familiar with current licensing, insurance and regulatory environment
Become familiar with recent and pending litigation
Review material agreements with parent, subsidiaries and affiliates, insurance carriers reinsurers, and key vendors
Meet with executive, divisional and department leaders, external counsel, legal counterpart at parent corporation
Plan organization of Legal function, including assignment of responsibilities
Articulate a rough division of legal work between internal and external counsel
What You'll Do
Lead the Legal Department: Oversee operations and manage internal and external legal resources.
Provide Expert Counsel: Advise executives and departments on legal and compliance issues.
Align Legal Strategy: Ensure legal initiatives support corporate goals and regulatory requirements.
Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate agreements for the corporation and affiliates.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay current on laws and regulations; manage licenses and permits.
Corporate Initiatives: Support M&A, restructuring, and transformation projects.
Other Duties: As assigned by the executive team.
What We're Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in law from a Canadian recognized legal education program
Membership in good standing with the B.C. Law Society
5+ years of experience in legal practice
Demonstrated experience successfully providing counsel to all levels of personnel in corporations
Ability to travel as needed

Compensation
At the time of this posting, the estimated annual base salary for this position is $180,000-$200,000. Individual compensation within this range is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, and education/training. This range reflects the annual base salary only and does not encompass the comprehensive total rewards package that we proudly offer.
