Highlights of the job EPCOR’s People & Culture team is pleased to welcome two (2) experienced HRIS & Analytics Specialist into a full-time, permanent role based in Edmonton. This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional who thrives in a data driven environment, enjoys solving complex problems, and is passionate about enabling decision making through HR systems, reporting, and analytics.

This role blends business acumen with analytical expertise to support HR strategy, operations, continuous process improvement and organizational decision making. You will develop dashboards and visual analytics, respond to HR data requests, and produce high quality reporting that equips leaders with meaningful insights. While tools such as Excel Power BI support your work, this position is firmly focused on HR business processes and reporting systems.

As a Specialist, you will maintain the integrity and reliability of EPCOR’s HR data ecosystem to ensure completeness, accuracy and continuous improvements. You will also support the lifecycle of HR systems including EPCOR’s current HRIS platform (Oracle) and future transition to a new ERP based HR module. This will include participation in process mapping, data validation, change impact assessment, and performing user acceptance testing. You will collaborate closely with HR, Payroll, IT and other key contacts across the business to provide processes and reporting solutions while providing trusted guidance on system impacts, analytics, and HR governance.

What you’d be responsible for Reporting to the Senior Manager, HR Systems & Analytics, you will support the effective operation, integrity, and continuous improvement of EPCOR’s HRIS environment. Your key responsibilities include (but not limited to):

HRIS Operations & Implementation Support

Serving as a subject matter expert for Human Resources Information System (HRIS) functionality and ensuring system updates, configuration changes, and organizational redesigns are being accurately implemented and aligned across HR.

Investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving HRIS operational or data‑integrity issues, and partnering with technical teams to correct errors and communicate outcomes.

Managing the position creation and vacancy process, ensuring HRIS data remains accurate, current, and secure.

Supporting change management and HRIS training during system updates or functionality rollouts.

Supporting HR’s role in HRIS and future Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) transformation activities, including HR process mapping, data validation, change impact assessments, analytics related activities, and participating in nontechnical UAT and coordinating HR activities for HRIS releases and enhancements.

Data Governance, Reporting & Analytics

Protecting sensitive employee information by adhering to HRIS data governance, privacy, and access‑control standards.

Providing business units with HR data, dashboards, performance measures, and operational reporting to support business planning and regulatory activity.

Developing dashboards, visual analytics, and data summaries that present complex information in clear and usable formats for leaders and stakeholders.

Identifying opportunities, tools, and improvements to enhance reporting and analytics capabilities.

Stakeholder Support & Process Improvement

Maintaining strong working relationships across HR Shared Services and business units to ensure alignment with the HR Systems & Analytics strategy.

Partnering with cross functional groups within HR and other stakeholders to understand HR business needs and translate them into clear functional and reporting requirements.

Ensuring stakeholders understand data insights, implications, and system impacts by explaining findings in practical, business‑focused language.

Reviewing, designing, and enhancing HRIS processes to improve efficiency, data quality, and user experience, including recommendations that may impact staffing requirements.

Labour Relations & Investigations Support

Producing HRIS data sets and analytical models to support labour relations, including forecasting the impacts of bargaining proposals.

Compiling data for attendance management and investigation activities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting for Board‑level requirements.

What’s required to be successful Note: Individuals with less than the required experience may be considered in a developmental capacity based on demonstrated ability to meet the core responsibilities of the role.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience, and behaviours:

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Business Technology Management, Data Analytics or Data Science or a related field. A combination of a 2‑year post‑secondary diploma and related work experience may be considered.

Experience that includes

5+ years of experience developing HR analytics, dashboards, and reports using business intelligence tools such as Oracle BI, Power BI, MS Excel, and other Microsoft 365 products.

3+ years of hands‑on experience working with large HRIS platforms (e.g., Oracle, SAP, and/or Workday), with strong understanding of HR data structures and system functionality.

Demonstrated experience supporting HRIS implementation projects, system enhancements, or process redesign initiatives within the utility sector or a related industry, while driving continuous process improvement.

Experience validating, transforming, and preparing HR data to calculate HR metrics, build dashboards, and support reporting requirements.

Technical Competencies

Strong knowledge of HRIS operations and functionality, with ability to troubleshoot HRIS issues and support system changes. Experience with large HRIS platforms (Oracle, SAP, Workday or similar), with knowledge of how HR modules operate within ERP environments.

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Power BI or similar data analytics, reporting and visualizing platforms for reporting, querying, and data validation.

Ability to build dashboards, visual analytics, and performance metrics, with clear, accurate, and user‑friendly outputs.

Strong business acumen with a ability to translate stakeholder needs into actionable reporting, analytical models, and data‑driven recommendations.

Strong understanding of data governance, privacy, confidentiality, and secure employee data management practices.

Ability to lead data‑related projects and collaborate effectively with cross‑functional stakeholders.

Behavioural Competencies

Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) and ability to convey technical information in a clear, concise way for non‑technical audiences.

Ability to engage and influence senior leaders towards adopting data driven decision making processes.

Superior analytical, numerical, critical thinking, problem solving and systems thinking abilities, with the capacity to interpret complex data and translate insights into practical recommendations.

Demonstrated ability to lead and support change, manage competing priorities, and deliver results in a dynamic environment.

Assets [Nice to Have]

Experience with SharePoint and Microsoft Team functionalities.

Facilitation experience and HR advisory within a unionized environment.

Familiarity with SQL and Oracle BI.

Experience with AI enabled analytics or automation tools within an ERP or HRIS environment.
