for the following teaching position:
Port Hardy Secondary School, Port Hardy, BC
0.43 FTE Temporary - Counselling (2 blocks)
Commencing: ASAP to June 30, 2026
or return of the incumbent, whichever comes first
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
Master's degree in counselling;
recent successful experience as a school counsellor at the secondary level;
knowledge and understanding of the cultural values, traditions, and language of the Kwak'wala speaking peoples - Indigenous ancestry preferred;
the ability to work closely with staff in a team oriented approach to teaching and learning;
strong formative assessment practices;
knowledge and experience working with students with exceptionalities;
training and experience in CPI, Threat Assessment, Crisis Response and Suicide Risk Assessment;
successful experience liaising with parents, school-based teams, external agencies, and community- based professionals and coordinating SEL interventions using a multi-agency approach;
strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills;
experience with RTI (Response to Intervention) systems;
strong interest in innovation and inquiry;
a desire to work in a flexible alternative learning environment; and
ability to embed local Indigenous culture and ways of knowing into teaching practices.
The starting annual salary for a full-time School Teacher position ranges from $64,368 to $112,637, with placement in the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. The Remote Recruitment and Retention allowance is available for SD85 teachers payable at $3,035 over ten months.
