Job Description

Treasury and Investments within VP Finance is currently seeking a Full‑time Temporary Relief Senior Analyst, Investments for approximately 15 months. The Senior Analyst, Investments reports to the Portfolio Manager, Investments and must collaborate effectively within the Treasury & Investments team as well as with other University departments and faculties. This role also requires strong knowledge of complex and technical investment, financial, and treasury concepts. Flexibility in work hours and arrangements to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely basis including attendance at social events after normal work hours to foster business relationships will be required as well as the willingness to travel periodically. The Senior Analyst, Investments will experience periods of high volumes of work and stress when dealing with multiple and competing deadlines.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Ongoing monitoring of existing investment manager performance

Review of quarterly investment manager reporting

Arrange and lead update calls with investment managers and/or consultants

Identify and advise of any material news or issues to senior management

Oversee and manage:

Tracking of all investment data from custodial and investment manager statements by Investment Analysts into portfolio management software and other databases

Operational administration of investment subscriptions, redemptions, capital calls, expenses, investment documentation, contact maintenance, etc.

Manage preparation and submission of monthly and quarterly investment reports to senior management and the Investment Committee

Maintain current knowledge on market and economic events and forecasts

Conduct analyses and prepare ad hoc reports on matters which may include, among others:

Asset mix

Portfolio management

Investment strategies

Manager performance

Market and policy research (e.g., ESG)

Due diligence of new public and private investment managers

Meet and manage relationships with new investment managers, placement agents or consultants

Assess potential of a new manager or investment strategy and whether to recommend to senior management for more in-depth consideration

Liaise and manage external services providers on further due diligence (such as legal and tax) as required

Provide direction, guidance, and development to other investment staff

Work with and maintain collaborative communications with other Finance or University departments

Qualifications / Requirements

Professional finance designation (CFA, CAIA, etc.) with a university degree in Finance, Economics or equivalent combination of education and experience

Work experience in the investment industry (5+ years)

Strong understanding of financial markets and asset classes as it relates to performance, risk, and correlation characteristics

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with an attention to detail and a high level of accuracy

Intellectual curiosity, a willingness to learn and respectfully question the status quo is important for success

Strong sense of initiative and integrity to work effectively both independently and collaboratively with a team of strong personalities

Supervisory experience and the proven ability to manage small teams and provide direction and leadership to staff

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and expert user of Excel

Previous experience with market data systems and providers would be an asset

Previous experience in an academic or public sector environment would be an asset
