The Vancouver Convention Centre is excited to hire our new Senior Manager, Events.
We provide exceptional events that begin long before our guests arrive. The Senior Manager, Events is responsible for overseeing event planning at the Vancouver Convention Centre and ensuring that each event is thoroughly prepared prior to arrival onsite. The role provides strategic direction and operational oversight across the full planning lifecycle—from initial client consultation and proposal development through internal handoff and post‑event evaluation. The Senior Manager ensures that planning processes are consistent, documented, and aligned with organizational standards, and that teams have the information and resources required to execute successfully.
This position leads the event planning team, setting priorities, establishing clear expectations, and supporting performance through guidance and professional development. The Senior Manager promotes accountability and sound decision‑making while encouraging practical, creative solutions that meet client objectives within operational parameters.
The role maintains direct relationships with clients, providing clear communication, managing expectations, and addressing changes or challenges throughout the planning process. In partnership with internal departments, the Senior Manager ensures planning decisions are operationally viable and support a consistent, high‑quality experience for clients and guests.
Working closely with the Senior Manager, Event Experience, this role aligns planning practices with service delivery standards, translating client requirements into executable plans and incorporating feedback into ongoing improvements. As a member of the VCC Leadership Team, the Senior Manager works with the Director to guide the strategic development and continuous refinement of the event planning function.
What You Will Do:
Provide strategic, people‑centered leadership to the event planning team.
Build a culture of clarity, collaboration, trust, and empowerment.
Mentor, coach, and develop team members at all levels, supporting growth and confidence.
Oversee event assignment and workload management.
Partner with the Director to shape long‑term planning strategies, tools, and processes.
Support onboarding, training, and professional development programs
Lead the full event planning lifecycle from discovery to post‑event review.
Translate client objectives into clear, actionable, and operationally sound plans.
Ensure the team is following planning standards, templates, workflows, and documentation.
Confirm planning practices support accessibility, inclusion, sustainability, and operational excellence.
Collaborate with internal teams ahead of event delivery.
Continuously improve planning workflows and communication practices.
Stay informed on industry trends and best practices.
Drive planning‑related projects that improve training, tools, workflows, and cross‑functional engagement.
Build strong, transparent relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders.
Serve as a senior escalation point for complex planning challenges.
Partner with the Senior Manager, Event Experience to ensure seamless transitions from planning to delivery.
Represent VCC within industry networks and professional associations.
Leverage feedback to improve planning practices and collaboration.
Work closely with the Event team to solve problems and ensure client satisfaction
What You Bring:
10–13 years of demonstrated progressive leadership experience in developing teams across junior to senior levels.
Demonstrated experience in managing diverse, dynamic events in convention centres, hospitality, or event‑driven environments.
Strong asset: experience as a client or event planner
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Hospitality, Tourism, Event Management, or a related field preferred.
Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365; comfortable with digital collaboration tools
Knowledge of Momentus and Dayforce.
Ability to interpret CAD floorplans; AutoCAD experience an asset.
Ability to balance long‑term strategic work with day‑to‑day demands of a dynamic environment
Applies strategic, analytical thinking to complex planning scenarios.
Considers long‑term and organization‑wide impacts.
Evaluates multiple solutions and manages risk with confidence.
The salary range for this position is $ 96,441- $120,551.
