Position Litigation Lawyer – Personal Injury (First Chair)

Role Summary We are seeking an experienced and courtroom-ready personal injury litigator to assume a leadership role within our litigation department. The ideal candidate will be confident in Court and Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT) settings, capable of independently managing complex files, and comfortable taking matters through mediation, pre-trial, and trial as well as LAT oral hearings.

Key Responsibilities

Act as first chair litigation counsel on tort files and catastrophically impaired (CAT) files

Appear before the LAT for oral hearings

Conduct tort mediations, pre-trials, and trials at the Superior Court level

Negotiate and settle CAT claims under SABS framework

Develop litigation strategy from intake through resolution

Lead negotiations and aggressively advance files toward favorable resolution

Mentor support staff within the litigation team

Required Qualifications

Experience conducting mediations and pre-trial

Strong courtroom advocacy skills and comfort conducting trials

Proven experience before the LAT

Demonstrated experience handling and resolving catastrophic impairment claims

Solid understanding of SABS and related statutory frameworks

Strategic, assertive, and results-driven litigation approach

Preferred Background

Experience from an insurance defence environment is considered a strong asset

Track record of independently managing complex litigation files

Natural leadership presence and ability to command a courtroom
