ABOUT OUR DAMAGES & VALUATIONS TEAM
As part of our expanding Damages & Valuations team, you will join a select group of the world’s foremost experts and advisors. The facts prove it. We are a collaborative team of experienced accountants, economists, PhDs, certified business valuators, investment analysts, and industry specialists – all working together to address the most complex litigation and strategic commercial questions no matter the industry or global location.
As part of our continued growth in Canada, our Damages & Valuations practice is expanding into Montreal. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) to join our team at the Director level. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven professional to build and lead our Montreal presence, develop a strong book of business, and play a key role in growing the practice. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our construction teams in Montreal and Toronto, as well as our damages team in Toronto, delivering exceptional client service and innovative valuation solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Exceptional analytical skills, solid quantitative training, remarkable communication skills, and creativity are the foundation for successful professionals at Secretariat. Successful candidates will join an expanding domestic and international business valuation and damages quantification practice. Our team works on large and complex commercial damages matters involving misappropriations of assets, post‑acquisition disputes, forensic accounting investigations, and a myriad of other domestic and international disputes. These cases will give successful candidates exposure to unique, complex, interesting issues, often integrating finance, accounting, economics, and legal principles.

Collaborate with team members in conducting economic, financial, accounting, and industry research
Analyze financial and non‑financial information, and discuss findings with other team members
Prepare valuation, damages, and forensic accounting reports
Prepare critique reports examining the conclusions of other experts
Communicate with clients and counsel
Prepare for and attend hearings, trials, and mediations
Manage the day‑to‑day requirements of multiple engagements
Engage in various business development efforts
QUALIFICATIONS
Requisite professional designations and work experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or similar, from an accredited university or college
8+ years of prior experience in economic damages and/or forensic accounting
Prior experience at one of the ‘Big Four’ accounting firms would be an asset
Holder of CBV designation
Holder of CPA, CFA also preferred
Must be bilingual in French & English
Potential and interest to develop a practice in disputes; prior experience in litigation support strongly preferred
Strong expert report writing skills to complement analytics
Able to quickly assimilate relevant information in unfamiliar situations and develop creative approaches and solutions necessary to resolve complex problems
The ability to manage and prioritize your time and your team’s time, potentially against a backdrop of competing deadlines
The ability to manage team members, both junior and senior, as well as external stakeholders
Excellent listening, verbal, written, technical, and presentation skills
The desire to join in with, and/or lead, auxiliary tasks and business development activities associated with a growing practice within a rapidly growing firm
Highly proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Excel and PowerPoint
The ability to travel as needed
Authorized to work in Canada without need for sponsorship
