Director, Plant/Country Controller – Costa Rica

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Plant/Country Controller to lead financial operations at our greenfield medical device manufacturing plant in Costa Rica. This role is a key business partner to site leadership and the Accounting organization, driving financial compliance (SOX & GAAP), location financial performance/analysis, operational efficiency, statutory compliance, and strategic decision-making in a highly-regulated environment. The ideal candidate brings deep manufacturing finance experience, strong accounting and controls experience as well as a passion for continuous improvement. This role will be heavily involved with country level accounting and compliance activities as there are no commercial or administrative organizations in the country.
Country Level Responsibilities:
Support Global Accounting teams with statutory and management reporting and compliance.
Work with Global Accounting to review and improve processing of local expenses (payroll, tax payments/processing, etc.)
Involvement with local cash management activities (A/P, banking, I/C transactions, etc.)
Oversight of trade compliance requirements related to free trade zones, inventory tax management, etc.
Support of local audit requirements related to local government filing and tax treatments.
Manufacturing Site Responsibilities:
Ensure timely and accurate month-end close and financial reporting deliverables.
Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activities for the plant.
Partner with cross-functional teams—operations, engineering, quality, supply chain—to drive cost improvement and value creation initiatives.
Oversee capital expenditure tracking and analysis; measure and report on whether capital projects are delivering expected financial and operational benefits.
Support development and launch of local ERP system (SAP) for the manufacturing site.
Drive compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements through robust internal controls and audit readiness.
Utilize financial and non-financial metrics to assess plant performance, identify opportunities, and inform strategic decisions.
Effectively communicate plant financial results to a variety of stakeholders
Support global standard costing with a focus on local overhead rates, material costs, variance analysis, and inventory accounting in accordance with U.S. GAAP
Support plant initiatives such as lean manufacturing, process optimization, and quality improvement efforts. Validate the effectiveness of these programs with site management.
Manage, develop, coach, and mentor a small team of finance professionals, building a high-performance, results-oriented culture.
Collaborate with other Insulet operations and finance teams to drive efficient and consistent processes across the organization.
Support Scrap Analysis and reconciliation between tracking systems and treatment within the P&L.
Continuous improvement mindset to drive improvements in quality and efficiency of data, analysis and controls.
Represent Manufacturing Finance for project or process updates or implementation as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA preferred.
Demonstrated leadership skills including a minimum of 12 years’ progressive finance experience, including 7+ years in a manufacturing or plant controller role, and a minimum of 5 years as a people leader
Experience with local tax laws related to free trade zones, government subsidies/credits, and local GAAP requirements.
Experience in the medical device or life sciences industry strongly preferred.
Foundation in US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and SOX compliance for international entities.
Extensive knowledge of local financial and regulatory requirements
Deep understanding of cost accounting, inventory management, and manufacturing operations.
Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines
Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and strong Excel and financial modeling skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to influence and coach teams to financial objectives.
Executive leadership presence and ability to influence at all levels of the organization
Preferred Skills & Attributes:
Familiarity with FDA regulations and ISO quality standards.
Track record of driving financial performance in a regulated manufacturing setting.
Experience with new or start up operations.
Ability to thrive in a matrixed organization and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
