VMO / Staff Specialist Contract to be negotiated with successful applicant
Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) is the major health provider in the Central Hume region. NHW has just completed a major redevelopment including the building of a new emergency department ICU and expansion of medical and paediatric are seeking an endocrinologist / general physician to support a clinically diverse general medicine unit.
NHW is a growing regional service with 255 beds and is the major referral facility for the greater part of Northeast Victoria. Our service is growing with over 30000 emergency presentations per year and 70-80 medical admissions per week.
The general medicine unit is staffed by specialist physicians and admits a of medical presentations. The unit also supports other clinical units through a consulting service. Northeast Health has a broad range of inpatient specialties including an Intensive Care Unit General Surgery Orthopaedic Surgery Urology Anaesthesia Obstetrics and Gynaecology Paediatrics Geriatrics / Rehabilitation Medical Oncology and Mental Health services.
The service contributes to undergraduate and post-graduate medical education and to nursing and allied health education. University of Melbournes popular rural clinical school is located onsite its education facilities include a simulation lab and skills centre.
The Role
Northeast Health is looking to recruit a physician to work as both a general physician and endocrinologist within our medical team (up to 0.6 EFT). The endocrinology role involves a dedicated endocrinology clinic and twice weekly rounds with the diabetes educators / nurse practitioners to optimise diabetes care. The successful applicant would be expected to provide specialist endocrinology support to our general medical teams. The endocrinology component of the role has a maximum allocation of 0.3 EFT.
Opportunities also exist to support our 3 inpatient medical units on a regular basis. Ward service in these roles consists of attendance at the medical handover daily (Monday-Friday) at 0800 and then completing rounds and supporting the unit registrars and interns. Some non-clinical and outpatient duties will be required during these weeks. Blocks of ward service are allocated of between 2 and 4 weeks.
We are looking for applicants who can contribute to the roster on a regular basis and are willing to work weekends at a maximum of 1 : 6. The rostering will be flexible to the needs of appropriate applicants.

An easy 2½ hours drive on the Hume freeway from Melbourne and less than an hour to Albury airport with direct flights to most of the large Australian cities.
Whether you want to hike mountain bike and ski in the mountains paddle the rivers or cruise on the rail trails there is something for everyone in the northeast.
Live in Wangaratta itself or one of the many beautiful smaller towns nearby.

Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must hold general registration with AHPRA as well as specialty physician registration in general medicine and endocrinology.
Confirmation of Influenza Vaccination or an approved medical exemption is required upon application. Covid Vaccination is strongly recommended.
