Job Description
We are currently seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our small and experienced legal team based in Southbank.
You will be responsible for supporting our project delivery activities including advising on landholder and other third‑party agreements and regulatory matters, and working on commercial arrangements associated with delivery of our underground gas storage services strategic pillar. The role also covers working with the procurement team and business owners on procurement contracts across the business.
This is an exciting opportunity for candidates with a strong background in legal professional services, together with in‑house experience.
You will be an experienced professional with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working closely with the Project Delivery, Commercial and Procurement teams. You will have led contracting matters and been involved in complex regulatory advice. You will operate with a ‘can do’ business partnering mindset, while providing independent legal advice to the business.
Job Requirements
Excellent credentials including a minimum 5+ years post qualification experience in a professional services top tier law firm
At least 2 years’ experience in an in‑house role
Proven experience in advising on and negotiating commercial contracts
Experience in advising on regulatory matters and asset acquisitions
Property and dispute experience desirable but not essential
Utilities or Oil & Gas experience would be well regarded
Strong IT skills with MS office package (Word, Teams, PowerPoint)
Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the General Counsel & Company Secretary/General Manager Government & Regulatory Affairs (who is a direct report to the CEO), key responsibilities of the role include:
Review, draft and negotiate landholder and associated agreements e.g. land option deeds and other third‑party agreements
Provide legal advice on regulatory matters
Provide legal advice and draft and negotiate commercial arrangements with third parties and any asset acquisition agreements relating to our underground gas storage services strategic pillar
Review and advise on all procurement contracts across the business, including Projects, IT, and Iona Operations
