Senior Solicitor - Family Law and Child Protection You will work within our Civil Practice team, to ensure the provision of high quality, professional and culturally competent civil, family and child protection legal advice and representation, within the policy guidelines established by the Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement Board and funding bodies.

Key Responsibilities

Provide high quality, professional and culturally appropriate legal advice, representation, information and education in relation to child protection and family law matters.

Conduct complex legal matters, including hearings and trials in the Adelaide Youth Court, Federal Circuit Court and Family Court.

Assist in the informal and formal mentoring of junior team members.

Contribute through the Civil Practice Director to the development and review of law reform and policy initiatives as Family Law and Child Protection issues arise.

Understand and apply ALRM and AGD Policies as they relate to the provision of legal aid services to clients. Assist the Principal Legal Officer and the Civil Practice Director in meeting accountability responsibilities to funding bodies and in the development of funding submissions and proposals.

Support and work with people with diverse backgrounds, value systems, cultural differences and special needs.

What You’ll Bring

Admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in South Australia.

SA Practising Certificate with minimum 5+ years post‑admission experience.

Demonstrated experience in the conduct of Family Law and Child Protection legal practice.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the impact of colonisation and the Australian legal system on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities and the requirements for effective professional client representation.

Capacity to manage the provision of legal casework, including higher court work, and to manage legal casework briefed to other service providers.
