Lead culinary standards, innovation and large‑scale production for one of Melbourne’s leading event groups.

About the Role We are seeking an experienced Head of Culinary to oversee all culinary operations across a major event group’s Melbourne venues. This senior leadership role is responsible for food quality, menu innovation, large‑scale production, team development and the consistent delivery of premium event experiences.

The position requires a strategic and operational culinary leader who can collaborate across departments, drive efficiency, and uphold strong food safety and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

Lead all culinary operations across multiple venues.

Oversee kitchen recruitment, training, leadership and team development.

Drive culinary creativity including menu design, food styling, presentation and innovation.

Implement standardised culinary systems including recipes, photos, written instructions and training materials.

Ensure compliance with all food safety obligations and HACCP requirements.

Manage food and labour costs, budgeting and financial reporting.

Source and recommend kitchen equipment and food presentation items.

Build and maintain positive customer and supplier relationships.

Lead production planning and execution for large‑scale events.

Support special projects, seasonal menus and ticketed events.

Contribute to brand consistency and culinary standards across the group.

Attend tastings, showcases, client meetings and off‑site events as required.

Identify new business opportunities, supplier partnerships and menu concepts.

Maintain a safe working environment and embed strong OHS practices.

Oversee service quality at events and ensure all food meets brand standards.

Maintain recipe folders, costing data and software records for all menu items.

Mentor and develop kitchen teams, fostering collaboration and career pathways.

Skills and Experience

Proven experience as an Executive Chef or Head Chef within a premium, high‑volume or events‑focused environment.

Expertise in menu design, costing, execution and operational delivery.

Strong leadership capabilities with experience developing high‑performing teams.

Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.

Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to manage complex operational requirements.

Deep understanding of food safety, compliance and large‑scale production processes.

Experience in stakeholder management with internal and external partners.

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and recipe management systems.

Demonstrated ability to plan and support special events including tastings, showcases and off‑site activations.

Commercial awareness and initiative to identify business opportunities.
