About Us
Founded in 2014, The Shooting Industry Foundation of Australia (SIFA) is the national peak body representing the Australian shooting industry. SIFA works in advocacy, research, education and safety promotion to inform the public, regulators and politicians about the role our industry plays across Australia’s social and economic landscape.
Location:
Prefer ACT or NSW, VIC, QLD with flexible working arrangements / work from home.

Local / Interstate / Overseas travel as required.
Salary:
Negotiable, dependent upon experience.
The Shooting Industry Foundation of Australia has an immediate requirement for a proactive and professional Policy and Research Advisor / Manager.
We offer flexible work arrangements; therefore, we are looking for someone to join our team who is able to work autonomously and independently, with the ability to manage their own time, whilst providing research and policy advice on all projects and other engagements that SIFA is involved in.
Our industry is constantly evolving, so the successful candidate will need to possess a strong desire to immerse themselves across all facets of our industry and proactively seek to keep their knowledge of industry policy, regulation and current issues, up to date.
Role Responsibilities
Develop and maintain a solid understanding of all relevant legislation, regulation and policy that affects the Australian shooting industry.
Research, identify and uncover all policy, political and regulatory matters of concern, both arising and ongoing, that are relevant to the commercial interests of the Australian shooting industry.
Evaluate the effect of all proposed policy, legislative and regulatory changes that are relevant to the Australian shooting industry and look for opportunities where SIFA can represent the interests of the industry.
Assist in the identification of government, parliamentary and departmental inquiries, consultation opportunities or membership panels for any issue that may affect the Australian shooting industry, and draft and coordinate reasoned and articulate responses as required.
Establish effective networks and relationships to be able to effectively research and examine all proposed policy, regulation, and legislative change.
Provide advice to the CEO and SIFA Board on key policy and regulatory concerns that are discovered through your research and assist in the development of strategies that will produce favourable and tangible outcomes for the Australian shooting industry.
Represent SIFA at relevant government or departmental forums and report on all recommendations on relevant outcomes required.
Proactively work to enhance the image and reputation of SIFA as pro‑active and professional peak industry body, who are experts in their knowledge of the Australian shooting industry.
Ensure that accurate reports and documentation of all work and projects is undertaken and recorded in line with SIFA policy.
Key Selection Criteria
An understanding of the complex nature of Australia’s shooting industry regulatory and legislative regime, or a keen interest in learning and developing knowledge of these frameworks.
Demonstrable experience with project management, research, policy analysis & development and corporate communications.
The ability to effectively build professional relationships with key stakeholders including politicians, bureaucrats, law enforcement agencies and all associated staff.
The capability to consider political, observational, and analytical impact in internal and external communications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce reasoned and articulate reports, responses to requests for consultation, policy advice and briefing notes.
The ability to work autonomously and manage your own time to set goals and KPI’s.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in policy, research, marketing, or communications with a minimum 5 years’ working experience in a policy, research, or project environment.
