Head of Nursing & Clinical Governance

Family Doctor is one of Australia’s largest and fastest-growing general practice groups, with more than
114 clinics nationwide . We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to lead
nursing standards, clinical governance, and professional practice
across our national network.
This is a
senior, group-level leadership role
with responsibility for setting nursing frameworks, driving clinical quality, and ensuring safe, consistent care across metropolitan, regional, and rural practices. The role works closely with executive leadership and senior operational teams and provides professional leadership to senior nursing roles across the organisation.
This position is
not a site-based or operational nursing role . It is designed for a senior nurse ready to operate at scale and influence clinical outcomes across a large healthcare group.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and maintain
group-wide clinical governance frameworks
for nursing
Set and enforce professional nursing standards across all Family Doctor clinics
Provide senior leadership, guidance, and oversight to Lead Nurses and senior nursing roles
Ensure accreditation readiness and ongoing compliance with RACGP Standards, AHPRA requirements, immunisation guidelines, and infection control protocols
Oversee clinical risk management, incident reporting, and quality improvement initiatives
Drive nursing capability, education, and competency development across the network
Use clinical and utilisation data (e.g. Cubiko) to support workforce optimisation and service improvement
Lead nursing input into new clinical initiatives, acquisitions, and service rollouts
Partner with Practice Managers, Operations, and Executive teams to support high-quality patient care
About You
Registered Nurse with
current AHPRA registration
Demonstrated leadership across multiple clinics or regions
Strong understanding of clinical governance, accreditation, and risk management
Confident influencing senior stakeholders and operating at executive level
Able to set standards, provide direction, and hold accountability
Calm, pragmatic, and decisive in complex clinical environments
Postgraduate qualifications in nursing leadership, clinical governance, or healthcare management will be highly regarded.
