Job Description

We are a small boutique firm in Doncaster and Melbourne that also operates in NSW. We are experiencing expediential growth and there is an opportunity for you as a young lawyer, or a later lawyer looking for more flexible arrangements, to seek support and growth in your legal career.

Our firm specialises in family law, mediation, employment and criminal law and victims of crime. We undertake pro bono/law reform advocacy work in victims of crime matters, family violence and indigenous matters. We enjoy developing relationships with the community and referral services with whom we work closely!

We seek an enthusiastic worker who can:

Help onboard new clients across a range of the above legal areas

Daily running of files, strategic management of files, trial preparation

Drafting a range of Court documentation, particularly in the family law jurisdiction

Appearances in Court on procedural matters, at mediations and/or briefing/instructing counsel

Performing due diligence on client and other party documentation in family law matters, chronologies and case outlines (also in criminal law)

A willingness to learn and perform work in other areas of law.

Draft introductory correspondence and report letters to clients

Knowledge of practice management software and other electronic systems eg ebrief, Legal Aid Atlas, ComCourts, Smokeball, Court Connect and so on.

Have an understanding/empathy of people in states of trauma or from disadvantaged backgrounds, an interest in social justice, and an ability to convey legal concepts to in plain English verbally and in writing

Demonstrated ability to diary/file note, demonstrated accuracy and speed of work, file management, and working with friendly colleagues that work on a hybrid basis here and interstate as part of a team.

Reporting to the busy female Principal of 27 years experience, requiring the use of initiative as well as an understanding when clarification is needed, is essential

Being able to attend training and conferences

You must have a clear working with children check and national criminal history

You will be provided with the required training and support from the Principal and our support staff who are very friendly! We have amazing technology at your disposal and always seek to be at the forefront of service delivery and practice management to support you in your role. The role is full time in our Doncaster East office with some flexibility provided.
