Inaugural role with preeminent specialist medical college

Shape and drive one of the college’s most significant strategic priorities

Build, influence and accelerate a brand new sub-speciality Chapter/Division

The Position The preeminent specialist medical college, ANZCA, seeks to appoint a talented leader to shape and drive one of its most significant strategic priorities — the Chapter of Perioperative Medicine. The Chapter is a brand new specialised sub-group which has its own course, Board and committees. The inaugural General Manager will guide the Chapter’s strategic growth, operations and profile across relevant health settings.

Working under the direction of the college’s CEO, the Inaugural General Manager – Chapter of Perioperative Medicine will bring cohesion, clarity and momentum to this new platform. They will be responsible for building the operating model, strengthening partnerships, driving innovation and ensuring the Chapter delivers measurable value for members, health organisations, government and the broader system. In essence this role leads people, projects, partnerships and strategy, not clinical programs or patient care.

The ideal candidate will have senior leadership experience in a complex, highly governed environment. They will evidence success in driving strategic change and innovation, particularly in educational programming, delivery and assessment, ideally in the health sector. Adept at business case design and executing high impact initiatives they will also have strong knowledge of membership engagement and value creation. Collaborative and influential at all levels, they will be the sort of leader who thrives in environments requiring innovation, agility and complex stakeholder management.

A tertiary qualification in education, health, policy, business or relevant field is essential. Experience or exposure to the healthcare and/or education sector is highly desirable.

The Organisation The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA), which includes the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM), is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation responsible for training doctors (trainees) in Australia and New Zealand to become specialist anaesthetists (ANZCA fellows) and/or specialist pain medicine physicians (FPM fellows).

ANZCA is authorised by Australian and New Zealand regulatory authorities to set standards in safety and quality, and continuing education standards.

ANZCA also delivers a range of educational offerings, including perioperative medicine, hyperbaric medicine and rural generalist anaesthesia.
