About Us? The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.

The IUIH Mental Health Hubs aim to provide a culturally safe mental health services with a strong lived experience voice. The service embeds Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander concepts of social and emotional wellbeing, mental health and healing to provide wholistic and wraparound supports to Mob presenting with moderate to severe mental health needs. Service delivery is led by the lived experience and peer workforce with clinical input and oversight provided as required. The multidisciplinary care team provides psychosocial supports, comprehensive assessment, treatment and assertive outreach support to clients aged 15 and above. The Staying Deadly Hub is an extension of the IUIH comprehensive model of care and works closely with stakeholder services to provide responsive care to clients who may otherwise not access support or require inpatient care.

About the Role? As a Psychiatrist for our Staying Deadly Hub, you will be responsible for the provision of mental health services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and families accessing Staying Deadly Hubs for their mental health and AOD needs, as part of a multi-disciplinary team of medical and health staff, within the operations framework of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled Health Service.

Your responsibilities will include:

Ensure professional delivery of quality care, in accordance with the IUIH System of Care and as a member of the local multidisciplinary health service team, including working with non-medical professionals

Ensure that clinical care is in line with accepted national ethical, legal and clinical standards of Consultant Psychiatry practice

Build relationships with clients that foster trust and engagement in the service, as the platform for securing positive therapeutic outcomes

On referral from IUIH and member service GPs, perform comprehensive assessments and prepare care plans that comply with MBS standards and contribute to planned, coordinated and integrated continuing care for clients with mental health and substance misuse issue

Provide clinical leadership in multidisciplinary case conferencing for clients with complex care needs

Provide clinical advice and support to IUIH and member service GPs and other Senior Clinicians working within the IUIH network for clients with complex mental health and substance misuse issues

Establish and maintain strong linkages with other health providers in the area to ensure optimum coordination of care and advocacy, particularly for vulnerable and complex children and their families

Optimise MBS income generation, working closely with the IUIH Business Support Officer to ensure billing is timely, compliant and appropriately captures comprehensive assessment, care planning, case conferencing and other items reflecting complex care provision

Maintain own professional standards, including compliance with requirements for continued unconditional registration with AHPRA and maintenance of College PDL requirements

About You?

Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)

Disability Workers Screening Check (Yellow Card)

Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists

APHRA Registration

Bachelor in Medicine

Medical Indemnity Insurance

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in general Psychiatry

Desirable, but not mandatory:

Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
