Job Description
This position is suited to a professional who thrives in a high-performance environment and understands that strong financial management and operational excellence are critical to the success of a modern legal practice.
You will take ownership of the firm’s trust and office accounting functions while overseeing the daily operational management of the office. This is a position of trust, responsibility and influence within the business.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Accounts & Trust Compliance
Full management of trust accounts, including receipting, payments, reconciliations, journals and transfers
Monthly trust reporting and compliance oversight
End of month processing and financial reporting
Managing payroll systems, leave balances and expense reimbursements
Knowledge of Xero accounting software critical
Knowledge of LEAP legal software a strong advantage
Client invoicing and debtor management
Disbursement payments and allocation to files
Liaison with external auditors for annual trust audits
Liaison with external accountants
Ensuring strict compliance with all relevant trust accounting regulations
Continuous review and improvement of financial systems and controls
Office Leadership & Operations
Overseeing the daily operations of the firm to ensure efficiency, structure and professionalism
Managing office systems, processes and workflow standards
Supporting directors with operational reporting and performance oversight
Coordinating administrative functions and ensuring accountability across support staff
Managing supplier relationships and service providers
Oversight of facilities, resources and office infrastructure
Assisting with compliance, policy implementation and risk management
Driving operational improvements and maintaining high standards across the practice
About You
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Proven experience in legal trust accounting (essential)
Strong working knowledge of trust compliance obligations
Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite and legal practice management systems (LEAP and Xero experience essential)
Exceptional attention to detail and financial accuracy
Strong organisational capability with the ability to manage competing priorities
Professional maturity and sound judgment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A high level of confidentiality, discretion and integrity
A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement
