To lead and develop an APAC Health Economics and Market Access (HEMA) function, responsible for the execution, adoption, and delivery of impactful HEMA resources to all Olympus Business Units in the APAC region. This includes improving Olympusโ understanding of reimbursement and local market access at all levels, ensuring education and upskilling of the organization to enhance the impact of our technologies and their benefits to patients and patient safety.
This role focuses on the execution of global initiatives into the APAC region as well as the support of local needs across HEMAโs four main areas: Value Creation, Reimbursement, Health Economics, and Health Systems knowledge, including measurement and assessment of their impact on future market strategies. The role requires an understanding of regional and local market access needs and Global HEMA processes. The candidate must be able to consult and support Global needs and business unit goals through planning and evidence generation to support the adoption, execution, and measurement of key projects.
The successful candidate will bring significant experience in market access and project management, coupled with a demonstrative understanding of the medical device marketplace. The role will lead HEMA leaders in Australia and South Korea and reports to the Sr Vice-President of Global HEMA.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy Execution:
Lead the HEMA regional teams in Australia and South Korea to execute in line with Olympusโ strategy, whilst consulting, tailoring, and executing on all future Global strategy delivered by the HEMA Global team.
Develop and implement Regional Market Access strategies for key products and priority services in the wider APAC region.
Foster a cohesive and balanced Global HEMA community and expert network.
Localisation of Global Strategy:
Create and execute global HEMA strategy tailored to the APAC region, including global planning processes, technical delivery, and localisation to meet the unique needs of APAC health systems.
Provide insights into regional needs to support the development of Value Propositions, Market Access, and Health Economic strategies globally.
Develop a deep understanding of APAC healthcare ecosystems, including reimbursement systems, policy trends, and commercial challenges in key markets such as Australia and South Korea.
Deliver tailored reimbursement dossiers, value propositions, and value tools (including health economic models) that address the needs of stakeholders, including national health authorities, regional and local payers, in both public and private settings.
Team Development and Performance:
Coach, challenge, and develop a high-performing APAC HEMA team, ensuring continuous professional development and excellence in HEMA delivery.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Foster key relationships across all markets in the APAC region to showcase HEMA and MSA best practices globally.
Technical Expertise and Innovation:
Drive enhanced technical skill levels across HEMA operations, reimbursement, health system knowledge, and value creation to both the Global Business and MSA.
Resource Allocation and Decision-Making:
Exhibit required skills and experience in appropriate allocation and deployment of resources, including activities, projects, and investment.
Key Requirements
Education
BA/BS degree in life sciences or business-related field.
MBA, MA/MS degree in life sciences or related field will be preferred.
Experience
Minimum 5 yearsโ experience in a senior leadership role in Market Access or similar function.
At least 10 Years of experience in Medical Devices or life sciences industry.
Proven ability to understand business strategy, translate it into solutions that support the companyโs goals.
Solid understanding of healthcare ecosystems in APAC, including reimbursement systems in Australia (e.g., Medicare Benefits Schedule) and South Korea (e.g., National Health Insurance Service).
Awareness of policy trends and commercial challenges specific to APAC markets.
Strong links to Market Access and Government Affairs in the APAC region, particularly in Australia and South Korea.
Direct people management experience and managing teams.
Experience of influencing and negotiating at management level to achieve delivery.
Successful track record of managing and balancing multiple projects with overlapping timelines in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
Track record of successful partnership & collaboration with key stakeholders and business partners.
Experience working in a global cross-functional team (functional/matrix) environment and experience working with groups with varied cultural backgrounds and learning styles.
Skills
Ability to think strategically, critically analyze and synthesize complicated data, scientific, and business information.
Strong consulting, facilitation, and communication skills bridging between scientific and business unit priorities, to manage effective international and cross-divisional collaboration.
Strong interpersonal skills, outstanding verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Strong communication skill to bridge the relationship between global and regional functions.
