Job Description
Overview
To provide medical skill and expertise in the delivery of comprehensive primary health care services as a member of the TAIHS multidisciplinary health care team, demonstrating leadership in clinical quality and safety and fostering a culture of organisational reflection and continuous quality improvement.
Responsibilities
Provide patient-centred and culturally appropriate patient care
Prioritise patient safety
Apply current best practice guidelines to patient care, including following national clinical guidelines, health pathways, RACGP guidelines and therapeutic guidelines
Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team which promotes input from Indigenous Health Practitioners, Nurses, Indigenous Health Professionals, Allied Health Practitioners, Reception, and Administration staff to form a high performing medical team
Provide regular preventative health activities including health assessments (MBS item 715)
Provide regular chronic disease management care plans (MBS items 721/723) and home medicines review (MBS item 900)
Accurately record MBS items for all clinical activities
Provide comprehensive clinical documentation for all clinical encounters at time of care
See walk in patients as required
Participate in outreach clinics including school based clinics, rural outreach clinics and residential aged care facility visits as required
Provide support to colleagues, medical students and GPs in training
Maintain confidentiality and privacy
Adhere to rules outlined in the medical benefits scheme (MBS) and pharmaceutical benefits scheme (PBS)
Adhere to TAIHS policies and procedures including the patient results /recall system and endeavour that all recalls, and actions are addressed within a timely manner as per practice procedure
Check all investigation results and correspondence during each session
Provide patients with referrals and certificates at point of care
Take responsibility for following up patients you have treated and results from investigations you have ordered
Check results and care for patients of other GPs in the practice when required
Participate in TAIHS professional development and clinical governance activities
Complete advanced life support (ALS1) course every 3 years and basic life support (BLS) course annually
Complete mandatory TAIHS training activities
Complete RACGP continuing professional development requirements
Participate in quality improvement activities and clinical audits
Comply with infection prevention and control procedures
Maintain and adhere to the professional standards as outlined by the Medical Board / AHPRA in ‘Good medical practice: a code of conduct for doctors in Australia’
Notify the Director of Medical Services as soon as possible in cases of patient complaints, ethical dilemmas, interactions with AHPRA
Report any foreseeable risks or areas of concern to the director of medical services
Maintain specialist and general AHPRA registration
Maintain your own medical indemnity insurance and provide a current certificate of insurance to TAIHS
