Pro rata of FTE salary $150,000 – $185,000/year

The Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria (VPRBV) is an independent statutory authority responsible for regulating veterinary practitioners in Victoria. We are seeking an experienced and hands‑on

Finance Director

to lead our financial operations and support core corporate services in a small, collaborative team. The role is offered part‑time 30.4 hours (0.8 FTE) per week. The role currently has no direct reports.

About the role Reporting directly to the CEO, the Finance Director is responsible for the Board's financial management, audit coordination, budgeting, forecasting and statutory reporting. The role also oversees risk, insurance, ICT vendor management, procurement, policy governance, and supports basic HR administration.

Candidates must have current Australian work authorisation at the time of application.

This is a key leadership role in a small organisation, ideal for someone who enjoys combining strategic advice with practical, day‑to‑day operational delivery.

What you will do

Lead financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and the preparation of statutory financial statements.

Manage accounts payable/receivable, payroll, procurement, investments and statutory reporting such as GST, BAS, PAYG and superannuation.

Manage annual external audits and support the Audit & Risk Committee.

Oversee the Board's risk register, insurance program, and compliance requirements.

Provide ICT oversight, including vendor coordination and ensuring compliance with Victorian Protective Data Security Standards.

Develop and maintain policies and procedures relating to finance, procurement, ICT, and risk.

Support basic HR functions, including onboarding, recordkeeping, and payroll inputs.

Provide clear and insightful advice to the CEO, Board, and stakeholders.

What we are looking for

Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in financial analysis and reporting, including budgeting, forecasting and preparation of statutory financial reports.

Experience with government financial and audit processes, ideally including VAGO or equivalent oversight.

Ability to manage organisational risk and insurance, and support compliance with relevant legislation and standards.

Sound understanding of ICT operations in a small agency environment, including data security and vendor coordination.

Experience developing and maintaining policies and procedures across finance, risk, procurement or ICT.

Ability to support basic HR administration and contribute to broader corporate operations in a small team.

Excellent communication and stakeholder skills, with the ability to provide clear advice to the CEO, Board and staff.

Experience with Financial Management Information Systems and Microsoft suite.

Demonstrated alignment with Victorian public sector values and high standards of integrity and accountability.

About you

You will bring strong financial management experience, preferably within government or a regulated environment, and confidence managing a broad portfolio spanning finance, risk, ICT oversight, and corporate governance.

Current Certified Practising Accountant or Chartered Accountant membership.

Demonstrated experience preparing financial reports and budgets in line with accounting standards.

Experience supporting government audit and compliance processes.

Strong analytical skills and the ability to provide clear advice to senior decision‑makers.

High level communication, relationship building and critical thinking skills.
