The Role
Reporting to the Assistant Secretary, Finance Branch, the Director, Financial Reporting and Treasury is responsible for providing strategic leadership of the department’s financial reporting and treasury functions. This includes oversight of the preparation of the department’s Financial Statements, coordination of monthly reporting through CBMS, management of drawdowns and engagement with the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO). The Director will play a key role in ensuring compliance with legislative and policy requirements, while driving continuous improvement and supporting financial management across the department.
Skills and Capabilities
Expertise in accounting, financial reporting and treasury management, with experience leading finance functions and a strong understanding of the Commonwealth Financial Framework, including accrual accounting, annual appropriation process and the PGPA Act.
Demonstrated leadership capability including team building, staff development, people management, and contributing to a positive and high‑performing organisational culture.
Strong strategic and critical thinking skills, with the ability to navigate complexity, solve problems and develop solutions in a fast‑paced environment.
Well‑developed oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders.
High‑level organisational skills and a demonstrated ability to deliver results, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
Capability to interpret, analyse and present financial data that can be clearly understood by a range of audiences, including senior executive.
Self‑awareness and a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
A high standard of professionalism and integrity, with a strong commitment to the APS Values and APS Code of Conduct.
The Opportunity
This position is available to Ongoing Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and/or APS employees as a permanent/temporary transfer at level and/or a temporary performance (Acting) opportunity for a period of 6 months.
Qualifications and Education
Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Commerce (Mandatory)
Completed professional qualifications, or in progress to complete (CPA/CA) (Mandatory)
Eligibility
Our successful candidate will need to hold a valid Baseline clearance to undertake the role.
