Lutheran Education Queensland (LEQ) is seeking an experienced and values-driven Director – Finance to provide strategic and operational leadership across our financial functions. This is a senior leadership role with the opportunity to influence system-wide decision-making and support the long-term sustainability of Lutheran schools and early years services across Queensland.
Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director – Finance, and accountable to the Executive Director, you will work closely with the Senior Executive Team, school leaders, and key stakeholders to ensure strong financial governance, financial sustainability, compliance, and performance aligned with LEQ’s mission and strategic priorities.
About the Role
As Director – Finance, you will oversee LEQ’s financial operations, ensuring best-practice governance, robust financial planning and oversight, and effective financial risk management. Key focus areas include:
Strategic & Financial Leadership
Oversee LEQ’s financial operations and ensure effective allocation of resources.
Develop and maintain financial policies and processes that reflect best practice and support organisational goals.
Embedding strong financial governance practices as part of the LEQ incorporation project.
In conjunction with the ICT team, oversee the implementation of a new finance system for LEQ.
Review of and presenting detailed financial reports and analysis for the Executive Team and governance committees.
Monitor cash flow, profitability, capital expenditure, and financial risk for LEQ and Centrally managed early years services.
Drive financial planning and oversight processes that inform organisational decision-making.
Identify opportunities for system wide cost optimisation, investment, and improved financial performance.
Compliance, Reporting & Risk
Oversight of internal and external audit processes and ensure accurate and timely reporting.
Oversight of compliance with statutory, regulatory, and accounting standards (including ACNC, ATO, DOE, NSSAB).
Implement financial controls, policies, and procedures to foster best practice.
Oversee the financial risk management framework of LEQ spanning schools and early years services, including the annual classification process
Preparation of papers and decision requests for governance committees.
Approval of Commonwealth and State grant funding disbursements.
Maintaining and renewal of license agreements for centrally managed early years services.
Completion of the financial and administration components of the NSSAB cyclical reviews.
Stakeholder Engagement
Coordinating and leading Business Manager workshops and the annual business managers’ conference.
Provide expert financial advice to the Executive Team, School Principals, Business Managers and Early Childhood Leaders.
Build strong relationships with banks, auditors, regulators, and external partners.
Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
About You
You are a strategic Director - Finance with a collaborative leadership style and a strong commitment to values-based education.
You will bring:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics or related field
CPA or CA qualification (essential)
7-10+ years’ experience in senior financial leadership (education, NFP, or multi-entity environments desirable)
Strong expertise in financial governance, compliance, audit, and financial risk management
Advanced financial modelling, forecasting, and strategic planning capability
Experience with finance system implementations
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to Senior Executive Team.
Collaborative leadership experience including with executive teams
High integrity, professionalism, and alignment with LEQ’s Christian ethos
Mandatory Requirements
Current Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
Travel to schools and early childhood services will be required
