About the role An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and enthusiastic lawyer with technology, corporate or commercial experience to join our legal team. This is an exciting time to join one of the fastest growing sports and health technology companies in the world, working on a broad range of legal matters supporting VALD’s vision to democratize access to human measurement technology.

This in house counsel will be part of a small and supportive team. You will report directly to VALD's General Counsel and play a crucial part in providing expert legal advice on a range of novel global privacy and data related matters and on a diverse range of VALD’s business functions and legal issues. As a result, you will have an unique opportunity to see the inner workings of a fast-growing technology company.

What will you do? You will negotiate, draft and review commercial contracts, manage disputes, and offer strategic legal guidance across multiple departments within a growing technology company.

This role provides an opportunity for a collaborative, enthusiastic individual to join our team and perform the following tasks:

Provide day-to-day legal support on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters, including M&A and transactional work, client and supplier agreements, intellectual property matters and governance matters.

Advising on data protection compliance matters, including in respect of the EU GDPR and other related privacy regulations.

You will work collaboratively with stakeholders across the business and provide legal advice on corporate and commercial matters, including advising our product teams on upcoming product releases and the practical implementation of regulatory requirements.

Manage a diverse and complex workload, including overseeing and managing disputes or claims related to business operations, working with external counsel when necessary.

Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, locally and abroad.

Work with cross-functional teams to define clear legal requirements for the implementation of their respective roadmaps.

Prepared materials and led legal discussions with internal and external stakeholders, including the Board, on key legal matters.

Proactively contribute to knowledge management and the optimisation of legal operations, including developing contract templates, checklists, legal technology tools and policy documents.

About you To qualify for the role, there are some basic minimum requirements:

You have a law degree and unrestricted Australian Practising Certificate.

You have between 2 to 4 years’ PQE with a mid or top-tier firm or in-house.

You are excited about joining a technology startup environment and have experience working on a broad range of corporate and commercial matters.

Effective communication skills (both written and oral).

Clear and concise drafting abilities with strong attention to detail.

A pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach who focuses on the commercial outcome.

The ability to work effectively in a team and the capability to work autonomously within a fast-paced environment.

Interested in or willing to upskill in a broad range of global data privacy and AI related laws.

Passionate about AI, data privacy, technology, health and the future development of disruptive technologies.
