About the Role
As the Head of Identity Engineering, you will lead the global engineering function responsible for delivering, operating, and continuously improving enterprise Identity and Access Management (IAM) capabilities. This role shapes the technical strategy for authentication, access governance, federation, SSO, and privileged access, ensuring platforms are secure, scalable, and aligned with organisational needs and combines deep technical leadership with strong people management, driving innovation, operational excellence, and risk reduction across a complex, fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and mature globally distributed engineering and technical teams across all IAM domains.
Ensure stability, scalability, and continuous improvement of existing IAM platforms and services.
Build and run high‑performing engineering teams capable of delivering new IAM solutions.
Develop and execute IAM technical strategy aligned to business and cyber security requirements.
Oversee the full lifecycle of IAM solutions including governance, authentication, access management, federation, and SSO.
Provide technical leadership, assurance, and guidance across solution design and delivery.
Engage with senior leaders, architects, and stakeholders to align IAM strategy with enterprise priorities.
Maintain strong engineering discipline with a focus on secure, high‑quality delivery.
Apply deep cyber security expertise to manage identity‑related risks and regulatory obligations.
Drive innovation, automation, and simplification across identity platforms and operations.
Maintain operational effectiveness of identity controls and ensure software currency.
Lead change management activities including requirements validation, design decisions, and quality assurance.
Promote maturity uplift across identity operations and administration capabilities.
Influence adoption of standardised patterns and ensure consistent security outcomes.
Optimise product/toolset ROI and support global delivery models using cross‑functional teams.
Required Skills & Experience
5–10 years’ experience across information and cyber security domains.
5–10 years leading large, geographically distributed engineering teams.
Minimum 5 years delivering IAM solutions at scale.
Strong leadership capability with a track record of building high‑performing teams.
Deep expertise across IAM domains: authentication, federation, access governance, RBAC/ABAC, provisioning, privileged access.
Hands‑on experience with major IAM platforms (e.g., ForgeRock, SailPoint, Okta, Ping, CyberArk, Azure AD).
Strong engineering background including CI/CD, DevSecOps, automation, testing, and cloud‑native development.
Excellent understanding of Zero Trust, least privilege, SoD, audit, and identity‑related risk management.
Ability to define and implement technical strategies and guide solution design.
Experience managing complex technology change and understanding impacts across enterprise systems.
Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Financial services experience will be advantageous.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in Technology or a related field.
Industry certifications highly regarded: CISSP, CISM, IAPP, cloud certifications (AWS, Azure).
