Chief of Staff (CoS)
based in our HQ in

About the role:
The Chief of Staff (CoS) is a senior leader who works closely with the CEO and the Heads of functions to ensure the organisation operates in a unified, disciplined and coordinated way. The CoS supports the CEO by overseeing internal alignment, ensuring organisational readiness, strengthening governance, and maintaining smooth, professional operations.
The role connects strategy to implementation. The CoS ensures that organisational priorities are clear, operations are functioning effectively, and teams across Soldier On are working together with consistency, purpose and focus. The CoS also ensures that governance, risk, finance and operational systems are strong, compliant and aligned to best practice, enabling Soldier On to deliver safe, integrated and high-quality services across the country.
The Chief of Staff:
Ensures that priorities are sequenced, messages are aligned, and work progresses smoothly across functions.
Strengthens organisational rhythm, ensuring regular coordination, communication and decision flow across the leadership team.
Anticipates issues, identifies risks early, and ensures timely escalation and resolution.
Builds alignment between functions, ensuring that teams understand the CEO’s intent and the organisation’s priorities.
Acts as a consolidator of information, ensuring that leaders and the CEO receive clear, relevant and timely updates.
Supports the CEO to focus on high-value strategic and external responsibilities by ensuring strong coordination, internal oversight and operational discipline.
Provides strategic and operational advice to the CEO, Chair and Board.
About you:
The successful applicant will have the following demonstrable skills and experience:
Leadership experience in not-for-profit, public sector, community services, or similar organisations.
Demonstrated success in operational leadership, governance oversight, and organisational systems management.
Strong understanding of compliance, risk management, WHS and governance frameworks.
Proven experience leading teams and optimising organisational culture.
Strong financial literacy and ability to oversee budgeting, reporting, forecasting, and audit processes.
High-level organisational and problem-solving skills.
Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and negotiation abilities.
Experience working in veteran support, mental health, employment, education, and/or community services.
Experience with CRM/Case Management systems.
Knowledge of ACNC, ASIC, and NFP regulatory frameworks.
Understanding of the ADF environment and the experience of veterans and families.
