Zenith Energy is looking for a
Senior Legal Counsel
to provide strategic, hands‑on legal support for complex issues in the renewable energy sector. This is a unique opportunity to be deeply embedded in the business, playing a vital role within a fast‑paced, sophisticated, and growth‑oriented renewable energy company.
In this position, you will collaborate with high‑performing lawyers across a broad portfolio of energy assets. Your responsibilities will include timely, commercial legal advice to project teams, business units, and management on a range of issues.
The
Senior Legal Counsel
will report to the
General Counsel , working closely on matters involving:
The development, construction, and operation of large‑scale, remote power projects (hybrid and renewable)
The development and operation of urban microgrids
The development, construction, and operation of grid‑connected energy projects
Banking and finance, mergers and acquisitions, property, and general commercial matters and advice
Responsibilities
Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements, including
Power Purchase Agreements.
Construction‑related agreements (such as Works, Services, Supply, and Consultancy Agreements).
Leases, licences, easements, and restrictive covenants.
Confidentiality agreements and deeds of release; and
Employment agreements.
Draft, review, and negotiate project agreements related to grid‑connected developments and their operation, including property development documentation in the Wholesale Electricity Market.
Provide legal guidance during contract negotiations and throughout the lifecycle of agreements.
Advise managers on potential legal risks, including claims, variations, and dispute resolution.
Participate in tender processes by reviewing Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Invitations to Tender (ITTs), and contract documentation.
Collaborate with Procurement and Commercial teams to ensure alignment with corporate strategy.
Assist in preparing legal documents for Board and Executive approval.
Offer practical legal advice on various corporate.
Stay updated on legal developments in energy, infrastructure, and corporate law.
About You
A minimum of 5 years of post‑qualification experience (PQE) in a legal role within a law firm or in‑house environment is required.
Experience in the energy and/or oil and gas sectors is preferred, particularly in key commercial agreements, providing regulatory advice, corporate transactions, or as part of other specialised teams (e.g., projects or construction).
A bachelor’s degree in law is essential.
Admission to legal practice in Western Australia is required.
A solid understanding of corporate, energy, and resources law is necessary.
Familiarity with grid‑connected projects and the wholesale electricity market is desirable.
Excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail are essential.
An analytical approach is necessary, along with the ability to work across various business areas.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
