About the Role and Health Campus Be part of an exciting new chapter at Geraldton Health Campus. With a $188 million redevelopment underway, our Emergency Department is expanding alongside a brand-new ICU, High Dependency Unit, and Mental Health Inpatient Unit. We’re growing our dynamic team to provide high‑acuity, 24 / 7 emergency care to Geraldton and surrounding Midwest communities. As the Regional Resource Centre for the Midwest, we also support outlying nursing posts and small hospitals via our Emergency Telehealth Service.

Our blended medical model brings together Specialist Anaesthetists, Senior Medical Practitioners / Rural Generalist Anaesthetists, and Registrars, all supported by a strong culture of teaching and supervision. Inpatient units across the hospital are led by general specialists in medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, psychiatry, as well as obstetrics and gynaecology, working alongside trainee and service registrars, resident medical officers (RMOs), and interns.

As a specialist anaesthetist (FANZCA), you will be a key clinical leader, delivering safe, high‑quality perioperative and emergency care. Your work will cover the full anaesthetic spectrum, including pre‑operative assessment, general and regional anaesthesia (spinal, epidural, nerve blocks), and complex airway management. You will also play a pivotal role in :

Supporting acute and post‑operative pain management

Providing obstetric anaesthesia, including epidurals and emergency caesarean support

Contributing to trauma response and hospital‑wide resuscitation

Enhancing patient safety and theatre workflow across a diverse surgical caseload

You will be part of a highly skilled, collaborative perioperative team, contributing to clinical governance, quality improvement, and the supervision and teaching of registrars, RMOs, and interns. In a regional environment, your expertise will have far‑reaching impact, supporting a varied casemix, responding to high‑acuity presentations, and strengthening care across the hospital and broader Midwest region.

Our campus supports an active Medical Education Unit and staff development programmes, promoting immersive, multidisciplinary training with "medium fidelity" simulation. Specialty education programmes include anaesthetics, emergency medicine (with active EMET programmes), and broader general medical training initiatives.

The redevelopment will transform Geraldton Health Campus into a state‑of‑the‑art facility. The commissioning of the new ICU offers a unique opportunity for dual‑qualified anaesthetists and ICU specialists to shape regional critical care services.

This is your chance to make a meaningful difference every day while advancing your clinical practice in a supportive, well‑resourced, and expanding service.

Successful Candidate Requirements

Be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

Have fellowship of the Australasian College of Anaesthetics (ANZCA) or equivalent.

Have substantial postgraduate medical experience in anaesthesia in a hospital setting.

Competitive Salary Package : inclusive of 12% employer superannuation contributions and a generous professional development allowance.

Generous Leave Entitlements : 4 weeks annual leave, 3 weeks professional development leave, 10 days sick leave, plus other forms of leave for compassionate or cultural reasons.

Benefits

Relaxed Lifestyle : enjoy beautiful coastal and inland landscapes, a Mediterranean climate, stunning crystal‑clear beaches, and a variety of outdoor activities – all at your own pace.

Affordable Living : compared to larger cities, the Midwest offers a more affordable cost of living, making it an attractive option for families and individuals looking to relocate.

Family Friendly City : offering quality daycare, excellent public and private schools and a wide range of community sporting groups, while institutions such as the Geraldton Universities Centre, the Central Regional TAFE and the Geraldton Jobs and Skills Centre provide outstanding training and career development opportunities.

Cultural Scene : the region boasts a rich cultural scene with events, festivals, and recreational activities catering for a wide range of interests.
