Total remuneration Package:
($110,000 - $120,000) Package includes salary and employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading. Salary sacrifice options available. Use of Muurrbay vehicle, supplied with laptop, monitor and support from Employee Assistance Program.

Fixed term contract for 3 years, with an extension of 2 years or more.
Probationary period of 12 months.
Muurrbay Aboriginal Language and Culture Co‑operative consider that being Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position. Muurrbay Aboriginal Language and Culture Co‑operative is dedicated to language revitalisation, research, and education. Our work spans across seven Aboriginal language groups on the North Coast of NSW, supporting a range of community initiatives, educational programs, and publishing projects. We collaborate with Elders, language teachers / workers and communities to ensure that Aboriginal languages thrive for future generations. We are a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) delivering Aboriginal Language qualifications and Publishing House. We publish Aboriginal Language dictionaries and Aboriginal Language stories, plus many more publications.
Primary Purpose of Position
The General Manager runs Muurrbay’s daily operations. This includes Human Resource (HR), finance, RTO compliance, IT, and administrative duties and other non‑language project management. The role ensures strong systems so that language staff can focus on revitalisation of Aboriginal Languages. The General Manager also supports innovation in organisational cyber security, and the continuous improvement of digital systems and workflows across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
Provide operational guidance and leadership that is clear and positive.
Mentor staff and strengthen workplace culture.
Manage regular staff meetings
Provide operational advice and reports to the Board.
Support Board strategy through strong systems and reliable delivery.
Finance and Compliance
Manage budgets, reporting, and audits.
Ensure timely and accurate grant acquittals in conjunction with other staff.
Identify and apply for new funding, including infrastructure, publishing, and archiving projects.
Ensure full compliance with the 2025 Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and reporting.
Human Resources
Oversee HR policies, contracts, and recruitment.
Manage staff onboarding, supervision, mentoring, and performance reviews.
Build a positive, safe workplace culture.
Administration and Projects
Supervise administration and project staff.
Oversee major projects, including the building extension.
Manage procurement, facilities, and office systems.
Oversee IT systems, hardware, software, and digital infrastructure across the organisation.
Maintain and strengthen cyber security practices, including data protection, access controls, backups, and staff awareness.
Ensure effective use of Microsoft 365 tools (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Office applications) to support collaboration and productivity.
Co‑ordinate with external IT providers to ensure reliable systems, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.

About you:
You are an experienced people leader who brings strong collaboration, communication, and influencing skills to a role that requires both strategic thinking and hands on operational leadership. You work confidently across teams, build trust quickly, and support others to deliver high quality outcomes in a culturally safe and respectful environment.
To be successful in this role you will have:
Diploma of Leadership and Management or higher qualification or proven equivalent skills, knowledge in leading teams and managing day to day operations.
Certificate IV in Business or Accounting
Experience leading staff through change, supporting wellbeing, and fostering a culturally safe and respectful workplace.
Experience with financial management skills, including budgeting, reporting, and risk oversight.
HR capability, including recruitment, performance management, and staff development.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Teams, SharePoint, Outlook and Office applications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports and operational advice for the Board.
Driver’s License and Current Police check or willingness to apply for one.
Knowledge of MYOB
Knowledge and practical experience with the 2025 Standards for Registered Training Organisations RTOs, including governance and reporting deadlines, or a willingness to learn compliance practices.
Experience in grant writing and securing funding for infrastructure, cultural, or digital projects.
Knowledge of governance processes and working effectively with the Board.

NSW Police Check or willing and able to obtain one prior to commencement
