The Head of Co‑Curricular Sport leads K-12 sport at HVGS, driving program development, coaching quality, talent pathways and staff leadership to build an engaging, inclusive and high‑performing sporting culture.

About the Role
The Head of Co-Curricular Sport – K-12 (HoCCS) will work closely with the Director of Experiential Learning and Co-Curriculum (DoEL) in leading, developing and promoting co-curricular sports across Hunter Valley Grammar School (HVGS). The HoCCS has a love of sport and a desire to inspire and engage HVGS students in their sporting endeavours.
They seek to embrace and enhance the position of HVGS as a leading provider of co-curricular sporting education, promoting to the community the value of physical pursuit and participation in sport.
Work Pattern: This position is a permanent, full-time role, working 38 hours per week Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30 pm with a 54-minute lunch break.
Key Duties
Overall
Lead, develop, and promote the culture and profile of HVGS through the Co-Curricular Sports Programs
Create a climate of excellence in student performance through the establishment of an effective environment for quality learning, coaching, personal best achievement and collaborative relationships between staff, students, and parents
Develop, manage and maintain effective relationships with staff from Independent Schools within the HRIS, AICES, CIS and other relevant sporting associations to ensure HVGS is well represented, considered with the decision-making process and supported within the sporting codes
In conjunction with the DoEL, develop and maintain the strategic direction, rationale, vision, and sustainability of the Co-Curricular Sports Programs
Student Talent Development
Develop and implement training, support and progressive pathways in the HVGS co-curricular sports program as well as with external sporting organisations
Ensure that effective coaching and mentoring of students is in place within the Co-Curricular Sports Program.
Provide timely and accurate advice regarding Scholarship applications to the Principal
Direct management and coaching of one of the Club Sports (Netball or Football), including the weekend responsibility of the club games
Oversee the Schools Elite Athlete Program (EAP) to identify appropriate support services for the students and developing partnerships with external bodies that can strengthen the program
Maintain and enhance a culture of inclusion, active participation, sportsmanship and striving for personal best
Ensure HVGS Student Code of Conduct and Values are present and lived within the program
Leadership and People Management
Work collaboratively with HVGS leadership teams to develop, implement and review the HVGS Co-Curricular Sports Program (representational and club sports)
Lead and collaborate with the Co-Curricular and Sports Coordinator (CCSC) and TICs of sport, ensuring high quality coaching and compliance with School expectations, policies and guidelines
In liaison with DoEL, CCSC and TICs, appoint coaches for all teams drawing from the staff, parent, student bodies or outside specialist providers and oversee the onboarding of new sports staff
Coordinate training, duties and responsibilities of coaches and team managers
Create and reinforce a culture of leadership that engenders transparency, outcomes, responsibility, and accountability
Administration
In consultation with the DoEL and the Business Manager develop and maintain an annual budget for all sport-related matters including capital items, program fees, and coaching costs (HVGS staff and external providers)
Provide support as required for the Senior School and Junior School Carnivals (Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country)
Ensure the efficient and smooth running of the administrative function and allocation of resources and facilities within the Co-Curricular Sports Program
Update policies and practices necessary for HVGS to continue to provide a quality and safe sports program, in liaison with Compliance Manager and DoEL
Oversee and maintain safety standards for sports, in liaison with Compliance Manager
Organise Sport Presentation evenings, in liaison with the DoEL
Support the process for identifying students for HVGS Commendations
Other duties as directed

About You
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of NSW sporting pathways for various sporting codes (HRIS, AICES, CIS, highly desirable)
Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Sports management, Exercise Science or related field
Strong commitment to, and understanding of, the importance of sport (both competitive and recreational) in the development and education of school students
Demonstrated experience supporting, leading, and managing people including exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and proven experience in engaging, motivating, and inspiring within and beyond their team
Proven dedication to customer service and continuous improvement
Working with Children Check – Paid Employee (required)
Sport-specific coaching qualifications are highly desirable
Current CPR and First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain)
Open Driver’s License (Light Rigid preferred)
Displays strong organisational and time management skills, with an ability to prioritise tasks, meet prescribed deadlines, and concurrently manage several competing tasks
