Position Vacant - non-executive Director, ABC Board

Position Summary Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts – Perth WA is inviting applications for a non‑executive Director vacancy on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Board. This is a part‑time position with a term of up to five years.

Relevant Experience and Knowledge Applicants must demonstrate substantial experience or knowledge in at least one of the following fields:

Media industry

Broadcasting and digital media

Digital technologies in any sector other than the media sector

Business or financial management

Educational content creation

Corporate governance, including managing large and/or complex operations in the private, public or not‑for‑profit sectors

Cultural industry and/or cultural policy, including its administration

Required Attributes Applicants must possess all of the following:

Demonstrated high‑level leadership and vision, and the ability to articulate a clear direction for an organisation

High‑level judgement

The highest standards of professional and personal integrity

Understanding of, or the ability to credibly represent, the communication needs of Australia’s diverse society

Understanding of the media environment, in particular the ABC, the Charter and its place within the Australian community

Applicants must also demonstrate a commitment to high standards of governance, almost certainly gained from extensive experience serving on boards. The selection criteria are set out in the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (Non‑executive Director—Selection Criteria) Determination 2024.

An independent Nomination Panel will assess applicants and provide a shortlist of at least 3 recommendations to the Minister for Communications. The Government will then make a recommendation to the Governor‑General, who is responsible for appointing non‑executive Directors to the ABC Board.
