Senior Penetration Tester - Defence

We are partnering with a

leading Canberra-based cyber security consultancy

delivering specialist security services into Defence. Due to continued demand across mission-critical programs, they are seeking an experienced

Technical Vulnerability Assessor (Senior Penetration Tester)

to join their Cyber Technical Assurance team.

This role combines deep hands-on penetration testing with formal security risk assessment responsibilities. You’ll identify vulnerabilities, and articulate the operational risks they present to senior Defence stakeholders.

The Role As a Technical Vulnerability Assessor, you will:

Conduct advanced vulnerability assessments and penetration testing

Perform passive and active scanning across complex ICT environments

Undertake exploit-based testing across network, web, API and cloud domains

Evaluate the security effectiveness of system implementations

Identify systemic weaknesses, misconfigurations and architectural risks

Produce high-quality, technical reports

Clearly articulate cyber risk to senior risk owners and decision-makers

This is an independent assurance role. You will objectively assess and report risk (not approve or reject systems), requiring strong technical judgement and professional integrity.

About You We are looking for a technically strong, Senior Penetration Tester with:

Demonstrated experience delivering structured penetration testing engagements

Multi-domain testing capability (infrastructure, web apps, APIs, cloud platforms)

Strong understanding of contemporary attack methodologies and frameworks (e.g. OWASP, ASD ISM, NIST)

Ability to move beyond automated tooling and perform manual validation and exploitation

Exceptional written reporting and stakeholder communication skills

Relevant certifications such as OSCP, CREST, CRTO, GPEN, GWAPT or similar (highly regarded)

Experience within Defence or Federal Government environments is highly advantageous.

AGSVA Clearance Requirement Existing NV2 clearance (preferred)

Australian Citizenship and ability to obtain NV2 (essential)
