Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is a new, dedicated public youth mental health service and is the first of its kind in Australia. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team.

About Us Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges. PYMHWS is leading a bold and values‑driven transformation in youth mental health care across Melbourne’s north and west. We exist to walk alongside young people, their families, carers, supporters and kin delivering care that is accessible, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, evidence‑informed, and grounded in lived experience. The Opportunity Within the FYMHS Team, the role will provide medical care and supervision of a multidisciplinary team specialising in the provision of evidence‑based interventions including diagnostic assessments, targeted interventions and supporting a new lived experience and carer lived experience workforce embedded within the clinical programme. The Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) forms part of the specialist clinical programmes of PYMHWS. FYMHS aims to deliver effective early treatment of mental ill health and to improve health and social outcomes for young people in, or at risk of entering, the youth justice system.

You will work closely with the FYMHS Stream Leadership to provide a high level of leadership, governance and expertise to PYMHWS Custodial FYMHS. This includes oversight of the care delivered at the two 4‑bed mental health units at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Facility.

The successful candidate will also provide expert clinical leadership to the custodial clinical teams, including maintaining high clinical standards, team professional development and supervision of team registrars and other staff as needed.

What You’ll Do

Provide a high level of leadership, governance and expertise to PYMHWS Custodial FYMHS and oversee care at the two 4‑bed units at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Facility

Provide expert clinical leadership to the custodial clinical teams, maintaining high clinical standards, supporting professional development and supervising team registrars and other staff as needed

Provide expert clinical leadership in the engagement of key stakeholders in the custodial environment

Provide leadership across PYMHWS by participating as requested in quality and risk, service development and innovation meetings

Provide supervision to both RANZCP Accredited Psychiatry Registrars and PGY2 doctors

Participate in the PYMHWS on‑call roster 5–6 weeks per calendar year

Participate in the PYMWS Medical Education and Training Program

About You Formal Qualifications

Registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency

Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent

Essential

Ability to demonstrate knowledge and experience in all aspects of psychiatry and with substantial experience and expertise in clinical practice with young people (aged 12‑25 years) experiencing mental disorders

Ability to demonstrate knowledge and experience in working in a Forensic setting

Ability to demonstrate leadership and management skills and experience

Ability to demonstrate skills in multidisciplinary work and the development of effective working relationships with consumers and carers

Ability to demonstrate aptitude for and expertise in service development

Knowledge of the Victorian Mental Health Wellbeing Act 2022

A Working with Children check

PYMHWS will organise a Police Check prior to commencement of employment

A current Victorian Driving licence
