Job Description

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for leading the financial strategy, governance, and performance management of The Swan Group and its aligned businesses. This position plays a critical role in shaping strategic growth, ensuring financial sustainability, and maintaining strong banking, audit, and regulatory relationships. The CFO will oversee all finance teams within the Group, ensuring robust financial systems, accurate reporting, and clear communication to Directors and senior management.

Reporting Relationships Reports to: The Swan Group Directors

Direct Reports: Finance Managers across Coorong Realty, Swan Agri Business, Swan Brothers, Swan Earthmovers, Swan Heavy Mechanical and Tailem Bend Bakery.

Key Responsibilities Strategic and Financial Leadership

Lead the Group’s financial planning, forecasting, and reporting functions with training and mentoring.

Provide commercial insights to support strategic decision-making and capital investment projects.

Advise Directors on financial implications of strategic initiatives and operational performance.

Contribute to long-term strategic planning and risk management.

Financial Management and Reporting

Oversee the preparation of monthly management reports, consolidated financial statements, and statutory compliance.

Ensure adherence to accounting standards (AASB) and timely completion of external audits.

Manage budgeting, cash flow, and capital expenditure processes.

Maintain and strengthen relationships with financial institutions, auditors, and key stakeholders.

Governance and Compliance

Ensure compliance with tax, ASIC, and corporate governance obligations.

Implement and maintain internal control frameworks to safeguard assets.

Oversee risk management processes, including insurance and debt management.

Leadership and Team Development

Lead, mentor, and develop Finance Managers across the Swan Group businesses.

Foster a high-performance culture with strong communication and accountability.

Collaborate with operational and business unit leaders to align financial practices with business goals.

Business Performance and Communication

Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights for Directors and managers.

Drive efficiency, cost control, and margin improvement across the Group.

Support negotiations with suppliers, customers, and partners on major contracts or financial agreements.

Qualifications and Experience Essential

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Business Management.

Experience in financial leadership, including 5+ years in a senior finance or CFO-level role.

Proven experience managing multi-entity structures in agriculture, contracting, or regional industries.

Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Highly Desirable

CA (Chartered Accountant) or CPA (Certified Practising Accountant) qualification.

Experience in corporate financing or capital project funding.

Understanding of rural enterprise economics and supply chain management.

Solid understanding of Xero Accounting software package.

Performance Indicators

Timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting and forecasts.

Achievement of Group financial targets and efficiency improvements.

Quality of financial leadership and team development.

Strength of relationships with banks, auditors, and directors.

Contribution to strategic projects and risk mitigation outcomes.
