This role will support the deliverables outlined in the BID Analytical Needs Implementation Roadmap, which aims to optimise data insights and reduce inefficiencies by consolidating and enhancing analytical tools that currently exist across multiple platforms. The Data Scientist will be responsible for analysing complex datasets (such as MBS and PBS) to provide actionable insights and support data-driven decision-making. This includes developing predictive and statistical models, performing analysis and creating data visualisations to communicate findings effectively.
The Data Scientist will work closely stakeholders, including data engineers, analysts, and executive team, to gather requirements, develop solutions, and ensure that the final products meet the needs of the users and align with the Divisionโs goals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Utilising advanced statistical and machine learning methods to:
Analyse complex datasets to deliver actionable insights that inform policy and operational decisions
Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights
Design, build, and deploy machine learning models
Develop model monitoring methods to evaluate model performance and fine-tune algorithms for optimal results
Provide recommendations for process improvements based on data findings
Working closely with stakeholders to:
Ensure data science projects are effectively integrated into larger government initiatives
Facilitate workshops and meetings to gather requirements
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirement
Provide regular updates and progress reports to stakeholders
Identify opportunities for cross-departmental collaboration
Conveying technical results and findings to:
Clearly and effectively communicate technical results to non-technical audiences, such as senior executives, stakeholders, and community groups
Use reports, presentations, and data visualisation tools to present findings
Contributing to team efforts to:
Represent the team in forums and meetings
Share knowledge and expertise with team members
Support team efforts as required
Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment
Introducing new analytical and data science methods to:
Systematically embed new analytical and data science methods into compliance processes
Build capability within the team
Stay updated with the latest advancements in data science and analytics
Evaluate the effectiveness of new methods and refine as needed
Identifying, developing, and maintaining relationships to:
Develop and maintain relationships to deliver work outcomes
Identify potential collaborators and establish partnerships
Key Capabilities
Experience delivering professional data science solutions in an operational environment
Experience in programming for AI and Machine Learning
Experience with SQL, R/Python, and R Shiny programming
Hands on experience with EDW and cloud environments, ideally GCP
Excellent at managing diverse stakeholder relationships to advance and achieve business objectives
Proficient in statistical analysis
Capable of developing innovative data-driven solutions using advanced analytics methodologies
Proven ability to set priorities, monitor progress and ensure the successful delivery of functions and programs
Capable of meeting tight deadlines efficiently
Ability to communicate data analysis to non-technical staff and managers
Ability to promote data literacy through effective communication of data that is aligned with work processes
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and engage with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
Ideally, have knowledge of the Medicare Benefits Schedule or the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme

Criteria
1. Demonstrated experience with data analytical platforms such as R Shiny, SAS, Power BI, Qlik.
2. Demonstrated experience in programming for AI and Machine Learning.
3. Demonstrated experience with EDW and cloud environments, ideally GCP.
4. Demonstrated experience with SQL, and R or Python for programming.
5. Demonstrated experience delivering professional data science solutions in an operational environment.
6. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within team and across various areas of an organisations, manage diverse stakeholder relationships, and communicate data analysis to non-technical stakeholders.
