We are currently recruiting for a permanent Secondary Design Manager in Sydney, NSW for our client, a well-established and growing organisation in the Power Transmission & Distribution sector. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead design efforts for transformative, large-scale projects in the power transmission and distribution industry, focusing specifically on secondary protection and control systems. Responsibilities: Oversee the design of multi-billion-dollar projects in the power, transmission, and distribution sectors, particularly in secondary protection and control systems design. Ensure designs meet client requirements, industry standards, and project timelines. Provide overall direction to design teams working on protection schemes, control systems, relays, panels, wiring diagrams, and associated high-voltage secondary systems. Ensure all designs are optimised for cost, safety, and functionality. Act as the main liaison with the client, managing expectations and ensuring alignment on secondary design requirements and project deliverables. Lead and coordinate a team of engineers, setting clear objectives and fostering a collaborative work environment to achieve project milestones. Develop and review protection and control design drawings, schematics, and technical documentation for substation secondary systems. Provide expert oversight on protection and control design aspects. Mentor and support junior engineers and design team members, fostering skill development and promoting best practices. Required Experience: Experience managing the design process for large-scale, complex infrastructure projects, including coordinating design teams focused on secondary protection and control systems. While the role is predominantly focused on oversight, some hands-on experience in secondary design and problem-solving is necessary, particularly in addressing critical issues that arise during the project lifecycle. Proven expertise in industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to secondary substation design. Demonstrated success in managing client relationships and aligning technical deliverables with project timelines and quality standards. Strong design management skills, with experience guiding diverse engineering teams to achieve complex project goals. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to developing effective and compliant design solutions. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field Seniority level
