About the team As the way Australians shop continues to evolve, our Data and AI Team keep Coles at the forefront of modern retail. We combine data, artificial intelligence, and applied engineering to reimagine how our stores, supply chain, and digital channels operate — creating smarter, more connected, and seamless experiences for our customers and team members.

Operating as a centralised development and enablement function within Coles Technology, the team unites product, engineering, and platform capabilities to deliver the intelligence layer of the enterprise. We serve every part of Coles — from computer vision applications that enhance in-store experiences and reduce loss, to forecasting, optimisation, and decision-support solutions that drive efficiency, accuracy, and agility across our supply chain, retail operations, and corporate functions.

About the role As Senior Platform Manager for Data and Visualisation, your primary function will be to define and lead the enterprise data and visualisation platform strategy whilst overseeing delivery of scalable, secure, and governed data platform capabilities.

Key responsibilities will include

Drive implementation of modern cloud-native data architecture (Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.)

Ensure platform reliability, scalability, and compliance with SLA commitments

Lead enterprise-wide visualisation strategy (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)

Champion self-service analytics and consistent data storytelling

Provide functional leadership to Platform and Governance Managers

Embed \"governance by design\" into platform engineering

Act as key interface between business teams and technology delivery squads

Ensure alignment with enterprise data, security, and AI/ML platform strategies

Evaluate, select and integrate modern data tools and technologies

Oversee CI/CD, DevOps and automation practices for data pipelines and dashboards

Ensure strong data lifecycle management across ingestion, storage, access, and usage

About You and Your Skills

10+ years in data platform, analytics or architecture roles

5+ years in senior data platform or engineering leadership

Proven delivery of enterprise-scale data and BI platforms (cloud/on-prem)

Experience managing cross-functional teams including engineers, governance, and DevOps

Strong background in visualisation tools (Power BI, MicroStrategy)

Hands-on expertise in cloud platforms (Azure), Snowflake, Databricks, Oracle

Experience building CI/CD pipelines for data and dashboard deployments

Proven data governance, metadata, and compliance expertise

Skilled in stakeholder management across business and technology functions

Proficient in SQL and programming languages (Python, Scala, Java)

Familiar with Agile, product delivery models, and hybrid team structures

Skills and Qualifications

Deep expertise in modern data platforms, BI architecture, and visualisation tooling

Strong knowledge of distributed systems (Spark, Kafka) and orchestration tools (Control M, ADF, Airflow)

Ability to influence and align senior stakeholders across tech and business

Excellent communication and data storytelling skills

Knowledge of data security, access control, and regulatory compliance

Strong understanding of DevOps for data engineering

Education Bachelor\'s or Master\'s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
